I did it, and I hate myself...

...But I actually skilled up for a hurricane. I am normally a pure Gallente pilot, but given our current woes, I wanted to have a ship that is actually useful in small gangs. Can anyone give me tips on how to fly and fit it? Small gang, low-sec pvp. Usually 4 or so fleetmates. Most of my skills are in armor-tanking, but my shield skills are ok, so that is an option. I can use T2 medium projectiles and max gunnery support and fitting skills. I have no missle skills at all.

So, any good fits and/or tips on how to fly them? I have a feeling "hit approach, overheat guns, and pray" isnt going to cut it anymore. ;)

Depends on how you want to fly them.

If you're not up to snuff on manual piloting and paying attention to what your target it doing, now is the time to start. You need these skills for the kiting hurricane (and any other kiting ship, something Gallente generally doesn't do).

If you're going to be flying the close range armor version, it isn't all that different than flying a Gallente blaster boat. Get in there, overheat guns, launch drones, do your thing.

But really, the big advantage to Minmatar ships is the speed and agility. Focus on kiting skills. Get some friends to help you out.

Yeah, I could have been more clear. I guess that is what I am looking for - kiting tips and fits. ;)

Highs: 6x 425mm acs / 2 med neuts
mids: y-t8 mwd / 2x LSE / warp disruptor (could use 1 lse and 1 invuln for more ehp but less neuting)
lows: damage control / nano / gyrostabs / tracking enhancers (i prefer 3 gyro 1 te)
Rigs: 1 anti- em screen / 2 core def. field extenders
drones: warriors

This is a standard shield cane fit. With barrage you can still do decent dps out past scram/web range so start a fight out at this kind of range and keep it if you might get webbed and/or scrammed. This ship can get under bs sized turrets easily, and if you feel good about not getting webbed/ scrammed you can get in closer for better dps with republic fleet emp/phased plasma/fusion. Stagger your neuts and when your cap starts getting low turn one off. If you have their cap really low 1 neut can keep it down. Be careful not to cap yourself out because you will lose point and your invuln can shut off (this is why i dont run one, the neuts deatroy active tanks so i like to get as much neuting as i can).

Edit: typo city

I used to have a clever sig but I lost it.

Well done, enjoy being called primary as canes are always killed first due to good dps and relatively weak tanks.Lol

I have always enjoyed my heavy close range brawlers.

Ofcourse quick ships will just kite me and laugh but in a small gang this works.

A hurricane for every need is good, but I do enjoy the double plated 220mm Cane.

High - 220mm
Low - 2x 1600 Plates, 2x Damage Mods, 2x EAM

Drones - 4x HOB II 1xHAM II

Then the rest of the slots you fit as you need. It is by no means a fast ship but I have survived in it long enough to take out two drakes before.

Funny, I always felt that way about my Thorax, Vexors, Brutix and Diemosts. :)

Thanks for the replies everyone. I bought a few and will try out these fits.

I think the common advice is to do good dps, but don't look like you're doing good dps. I don't know. Fly casual.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

If your Hurricane is armor fit, you're doing it wrong.

I greatly prefer the 720mm Nanocane over the 425mm, to be quite honest. Especially in small gang roams.

to 425s kiting setups i personaly prefer to have LSE + invu field as u have lot of cap and resistances are much better also anti em rig as u will not loose to gank harbies.

The Myrmidon is always a nice ship to have. It's quite versatile with its mixed slot layout.
A shield-tanked myrmidon with autocannons can out-dps typical fleet drakes, and out-tank shieldcanes. Also, you get EWAR drones, which are nice for a variety of purposes :3

Highs:
6x 425mm autocannon

Mids:
1x Prop mod
1x LSE
2x Invuln Fields
1x PhScat Field
(Feel free to swap out an invuln for a point or more specific tanks.)

Lows:
1x Damage Control
Rest is up to you~

Rigs:
3x CoreDef Extenders
(you could swap out a extender for a polycarbon engine for more agility/max speed)

Drones are up to you~

Just ask your fleet what else they need.

Funny, I don't seem to be called primary nowadays when I fly my Harbinger.

Maybe its because my friends are usually flying T2's.

I don't mind being shot at now... since i just bought myself some hi-grade slaves.... mwahhhahahahaahhah.

Typical low sec roam gang. Can you blame them for not flying Gallente?
