Rockets and missiles general have moderate to low DPS 'on paper' BUT:

The projection is way better than blasters i.e. you have much better damage at range.
The damage is way more consistant i.e with turrets there are many factors determining your applied damage to a target but with rockets/missiles it pretty much boild down to two (speed and sig radius of target) as if they are in rang they WILL be hit.

The 'easier' of the two imo is caldari with rocket/missiles for a newer player as there are slightly less factors to consider so you can concentrate of the basics of tanking and range management. Once you have a good grasp of those then train turrets to round out your ship/weapon capabilities and player skills.

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

For this my kestrel, which is faster than an incursus will do way more damage at 7-8km than said incursus.

DO NOT RELY ON DPS NUMBERS ALONE! It is about real application of the damage where it counts.

In another example a rifter that only does 80dps max can murder an incursus doing 200dps and tanking 200dps.......DPS are the WORST stat to make a ship choice on alone.

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

While generally true there are exceptions, sometimes a pure gank boat comes in right handy. But gank can be achieved with either DPS or Alpha (missiles fit in this catagory, but are sub par for most alpha setups because of time to target).

I have to agree with everybody. Pick a style that best suites you and go with it.

If you want to be courageous and daring by heading directly into a blob with your friends fighting side by side until one side is defeated, then join Gallente.

If you want to be a timid coward that fits up warp core stabs, or lobs missiles from far away and run at the first sign of trouble, then join Caldari.

It's all up to you.

Don't pick Amarr and you'll be fine

I had both Amarr AND Gallente BS 5 before I even had engineering 3.

Caldary ships are ugly. And if you fly them, you are doomed to look at this 80-90 % of your play time. Choose with your heart, choose Gallente. Do not join the dark side ;)

Now seriosly: PvP without warp disruptors is a way to see your half dead enemy escape at the last minute, IMHO. But! I do not have any PvP experience. Out of the logyc - you need to keep your enemy in warp scrambler range. So longer range benefit of rockets is doubtfull. Without possibility of maintaining range you are pretty much done in PvP. And if you can maintain range - why not use blasters with their high DPS?
