Rat aggro while ninja salvaging vs another salvager

So I won't lie... on an alt I do some ninja salvaging from time to time. But I've noticed something weird with rat aggro. I realize one of the recent expansions came with better rat AI but why do they perceive my tiny salvager-fitted frigate as a threat?

There are two scenarios I want to understand:

1) Lone mission runner is doing a mission. I warp in and I get rat aggro almost immediately. Even battleships like to target me. What gives? Why would they perceive me as a threat, especially when I have a full high rack of Salvagers? What?

2) Mission runner with salvager friend is doing a mission. I warp in and the salvager friend is already there looting and salvaging wrecks. However, I get aggro almost immediately. Even battleships like to target me. What gives? Why isn't the salvager friend getting aggro? Why would they perceive me as a threat, especially when I have a full high rack of Salvagers? What?

1) Maybe the change in the AI. The rats may perceive you as a drone.

2) Is the salvager friend in a Noctic? Perhaps with tractor range he is too far away to get aggro.

He was in a Probe. I was in a Slasher.

whenever something new comes on-grid, rats can and often will switch targets in the hopes that they CAN kill you where they have failed to kill what was already there.
Its been that way for a while now.

The other salvager is being protected by the DPS boat that is actively taking out or distracting with ECM/Painters/Reppers any rats that target his mate.
He is not doing this for you because, well.... low-life ninja salvager, you made your choice, deal with the consequences.

See a real ninja salvager waits in a cloaky ship then when missioner leaves for next room or to get his salvage boat to come back to empty space, loot and salvage gone....Evil ohhh now that's a troll ninja.

The word ninja means unseen by being seen not only are you a fail ninja but you become a theif.

He's only a thief if he loots the wrecks. Salvage belongs to whoever salvages the wreck (by word of CCP)

L2tank.

What would you think when you are shooting at someone and then suddenly ship warps in? Do you really think that character as ally?

Your are most likely seen by the NPC as a thread easyly removed.

Your desecrating the resting place of hundred or thousands of the recently deceased for profit and you expect their allies to just stand by and watch? You are sorely mistaken.

Curious though why aren't you doing this in something like a probe which has a bounus to salvagers and you can exploit the use of drones in that to target a different wreck at the same time. I think that would make you a more effective ninja salvager.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.
