Begining with incursions

Hey everyone, sorry if a similar topic has been opened, have a few questions about incursions.

I'm just starting out with incursions and would like to know what type of ship would be good to start in. I can fly anything from a frigate to a carrier (dont think ill need those) and can also fly any type of logis and other support ships, and have good armour/shield skills so i can fly with any type of fleet. How would you recommend that i start things off before jumping into the fray? Any specific type of ship recommended (BS, Logi, T3 cruiser). Id like to start out with a 300 mil budget, since i dont want to loose a 1 bil ship in my first run. Thanks for the feedback, fly safe.

This guide should prove useful. Linky.

Choosing shield or armour, I'd go for shield as there are more shield runners. Under 300m a logi is a good choice. Those can get a fleet relatively easy as the logistics are mandatory to survive. The other options are not as easy to get a fleet in, but T2 fit tier 3 battleships do get invited, as do sniper ravens for assaults and HQs.

Be aware that there are griefers and pirates around, lately even more so. Their favourite targets are basilisks and any other ships with cap transfers or other modules that can transfer aggro from can flipping. Luckily they mostly operate on vanguard fleets only so joining assaults and HQs might be a safer option. Using incursion local is somewhat risky for this reason so join the channel "BTL pub" (or "the ditanian fleet" for armour) for safer organisation. It's a good place to start anyway if you have questions. Additionally you can join the "Public incursion blacklist" mailing list to find out who has been naughty.

This post was rated "C" for capsuleer.

Get a logistics, preferable a Basilisk or Scimitar - you can deck one out for well under your budget, they are always in demand because each incursion fleet needs at least 3 of them (more for higher level sites), and, based on anecdotal evidence, there seem to be many more shield then armor fleets.

You should feel right at home if you've ever flown a logistics for WH op - establish a cap chain with your logistics buddies, keep an eye on the watchlist and broadcasts, and don't fall asleep. Bear

Be prepared to use EVE Voice. It is widely used in incursions, and I'd be very suspicious of a fleet that doesn't use it or some other type of voice comms that everyone in the fleet can use.

Hey, thanks for all of the info and feedback guys. Im really leaning toward logistics now, and since i've flown WH fleets, it shouldnt pose a problem if the fleet composition is similar. Using voice is not a difficulty either, just wondering, how often do logis draw aggro from the NPCs and how is their lock-shoot time frame. WHs are kind of tight on the time it takes the sleepers to start shooting you and you really have to be on your toes to broadcast for reps the right time or risk getting blown up. Would like to know if its the same here, after they lock you if they start shooting a second later?

excellent advice, and thanks for the link. I've been thinking about Incursions as well and a three post thread is all it takes to get good info.

Is there any good Logi guides someone can link? I simply haven't had any experience with it yet and don't want to be learning when someone is counting on me to keep them from popping!

Thanks again.

There's a logistics guide on the linked site.

In Vanguard sites - the easiest of the lot, if you discount scouting sites - you're allowed quite a bit of slack. Anything above that, and you should be broadcasting as soon as you get yellow-boxed; red will be too late in many cases.

Slacking while blitzing Vanguard OTA's is not recommended.

^this

Vanguard fleet are small enough to keep everyone in the main fleet on your watch list AND locked up.
Watch list will tell you who is receiving aggro (blinking red) and since you hopefully have multitasking to lvl 3 you can lock up 10 ships and those 10 ships shall be your fleet. Smile

Now apply blue stuff to red shield.
Apply green stuff to red armor.
Profit!

Good points! OTAs can get nasty if you don't pay attention.

All told logi is still pretty easy though...scimi especially. Very easy to fit. You can even fly it before you're logi 4. o.0

(not that it's a big difference in training time or anything...minny cruiser 5 + the l5 backing skills required is like a month or so, logi 1-4 is somewhere around 5 days)

Although, unlike dps, where if you have something come up irl you can step away for a moment and be fine, logi requires your attention for the entire site...

Best tip dont waste money on expensive mods untill you can afford them from incursions

You dont have to run a full faction fit to be accepted to fleets a T2 fit battleship will get you into most fleets if its fit right and if people tell you you MUST have faction this or that otherwise no one will accept you well thats dross

Also for 300m you cant go wrong with the abaddon/maelstorm and if you have money to spare after buying one a cheap faction web never hurts just dont think you MUST have one

i took my mission running tengu, and refit it for utility mods in the middle (2 webs, 1 tp all faction) which cost me about 150 mil (had to change a sub to 10% shields per lvl, and get the 3 utility mods from contracts). I made that back in two hours so...i really wouldn't worry about the isk unless you are doing something wrong and losing ships left and right.

For 300mil (hull costs 236 mil on Jita market right now), a NavyGeddon has more DPS than the abby, not to mention looks shinier (so is more likely to get the invite from stingy FCs who hate everything not Meta 5 or higher.)

EDIT: Not to mention the Geddon lasts much longer without cap xfers to it, so it's more likely to actually make it through the site without running dry.
