OK first. I have no intention of trying the scamming game, nor is this intended as a debate as to the morality of it as a game style.
Scamming is a part of Eve, end of!

But, I have just been to 'Crazy Town' (Amarr system) to sell some stuff an restock a few things. I always call it 'Carzy Town' because from the moment I jump in, to the moment I jump out my local is minimized, to stop me being distracted by all of the drivvel.
A big percentage of that drivvel is obvious attemps at running scams. I'm just interested to know. Do people make money at this, or it it just something done for the lulz, giggles & sh*ts?

I imagine that if people didn't make money from it, it would not be so prolific.

I don't know what you're trying to say, but I can get you into Goonwaffe for a nominal fee of only 100 million ISK. You can also apply to Groon for 10 million. Contact me if interested.

There are people who have made enough ISK from scamming to buy multiple titans and then some, but most scammers are opportunists or copycats. Nothing terribly wrong with either, but you're not going to rake in the billions posting contracts in jita local.

I'd like to believe, I really do, that people don't get caught out in obvious scams of the ilk that usually floods Amarr local.

Spaceship Barbie's track record speaks for itself, though...

My pet theory is that most of the ****** scam spam is done by dumbclucks who got scammed off in the past and try to brainlessly duplicate the cause of their downfall...

I once had a white knight warn local about me. To cover that up i copied and pasted some Jita spam that was left in my local tab.
Well whatcha know, someone transfered me 100.000.000 isk thinking I'd double it. ShockedShockedShocked

Amarr has started to go downhill since people realized CCP is not going to do anything about spambots. Jita is already there, the other hubs soon following.

So do those brain cells wobble about more? Or do they kind of hang or droop more than before? Just how loose do they become?

I spent some time in Tash-Murkon yesterday, it's even starting there.
No more than 10 minutes in local and I saw at least 4 different scams.

For every every smart player avoiding scams there's an idiot just begging to lose some cash. This is unfortunately the reason scamming is so popular. It does take a lot of time and the outcome is not the best and is quite erratic (which is why I prefer stable legitimate sources of income) but yes, scamming makes money. Best way to see this is to find a contract scammer in local, someone that's been around a while. Show Info on them. then click the top left icon and click "Show Contracts". this will show you their completed public contracts. You'll usually see a LOT of people that have fallen for scams on these lists.

They probably retain enough to spell 'lose' properly however...

I think there's a really high turnover rate with scammers. Some make it work though.

If it were possible to scam without spam.

that's my only issue with scammers.

they cost me, not directly, but indirectly (opportunity costs while pointlessly blocking; not seeing the potentially good contract, if there's such a one).

Miilla - you know there is no such thing as a stupid question. However if you regard the question as stupid, it is you not the questioner at fault

I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking
