PI resource depletion, revisited (CCP quotes inside)

Looks like the PI community had over a year now to crunch some numbers, deplete some ressources, kill thousands of cheap labor workers on remote lava planets in the process and refine their excel online libraries. So, did anybody got more insight into A,B & C of CCP Incognito's wisdom and wants to share?

Maybe it does work as intended and I'm only paranoid, but the heatmap is the main problem. The way it rounds up the value of materials in an area can deceive beginners and players with max skills. And the random hotspots make it a lot harder to grasp the whole thing.

- A player with max skills does get accurate readings from the ECU
- A player with max skills does not get an accurate heatmap displayed

Unless you probe every possible spot in the ECU range you have no way to 100% see the depletion status of that area. The rounding up makes it difficult.

The best examples are GAS planets. You see high density near the pols(ring like shapes) After you deplete much of the rings resources the heatmap starts to do funny stuff. Resources start to appear at the poles of the planet and those are not hotspots.
Maybe because of the big difference of density between the pols and the rings the heatmape makes you believe that the pols should contain little resources. But when you start to depleat the rings equally then the pols seem to gain a higher heat color.

You know quoting a Dev on the PI system which no longer exists and has been replaced months ago doesn't help much.

The information from CCP Incognito that you quoted does not refer to the system currently in place in tranquillity and there are significant difference in particular the presence of nuggets in PI planets now.

Read this devblog instead for some inspiration.

(NB: and yes, we've run the numbers and crunched the figures and come up with the best extraction situations for us. Have you done the same?)

i tryed cycles from 1 hour to 14 days on planets in 0.0 where i am the only person harvesting.
there is 0 chance to keep gathering the same...
the spots allways move arround the planet Sad

The usual mistake I see people make is chasing the nuggets / hot-spots instead of taking them as a bonus and spreading their heads out over a much larger effective footprint. The more you spread your extractor heads apart, the better chance you have of eventually reaching an equilibrium where you only have to reset the ECU and rarely have to move the heads.

(Or you can just move the ECU around a lot... they only cost 45k ISK to re-build, plus whatever the link upgrade costs.)
