Dumb. The whole thing is dumb.

All this trouble just to be a noob and play a PVP game.

Well even in PvE centric games like WoW there's a lot of studying to due per class (if a player wants to be more than just a carried). Unlike EvE where stats and all don't change frequently, players in WoW have to keep up with everything like every 90 days now per class/per role. Sites like Wowhead, Noxxic, Arenajunkies, World of Logs and Elitist Jerks (and some other popular sub-class sites) become required reading and studying.

It's a misnomer to consider WoW these days is "Hello Kitty" if you play at a higher level -- half of what players will be doing is "book learning".

I say this because in comparison to WoW EvE is more simple to play, because there's really no requirement to study. Advice given is just hop in a ship and just "do it". Where if a player in WoW does just that, he's screamed at as being a fail at level 13 when he enters his first public queues...because he will fail, as he didn't study his class, role, and gear to be optimal. Dungeons there is like missions in EvE, it's designed to teach you what you need to learn about your abilities and roles, and before you show up at a raid or fleet and not know what the hell to do.

Also, the fear of dying in either isn't the problem in games like WoW (play a PvP healer you'll understand real well how it's to die!!!), it's the fear of getting behind.

To be good at what you do, you have to invest time in studying what you want to do. And it's beyond just "hands on" training. When a WoW player comes in EvE and is doing EFT builds for EvE players pretty early in their "career" as a pilot, as the EvE players don't understand the tools or the stats, yeah, EvE needs to get the E-UNI studying out more to the population. It trains a more rounded pilot.

It's not the harshness that teaches well, it's the combination of book learning and direct experience.

Dude you just love to listen to yourself don't you.

I'm sorry, you've been quite active on the forums lately and every time I come across a post from you I can't help but think "Is this guy high?"

Does anyone else find Ace's posts hilariously bad?

Pretty much every single one. And they all reference WoW which kind of makes me think he's doing it on purpose.
