BPC Pricing & Info

I have a couple of questions about Blueprint Copies.

1. How do you price a BPC? I know each BPC can have different ME and PE levels as well as number of runs. Is there a method used to calculate BPC prices based on these 3 variables?

2. How do you know how high to research the ME and PE attributes of the BPO before making copies?

3. How many runs should BPCs have (out of max capable) should you set them for?

1. Start with the cost of a lab slot on your POS - ie, cost of running POS, divided by slots, is your running cost per day/week/month whatever. How long does it take to copy your print, add a margin - what that margin may be is up to you, and the market.

2. Depends on your market - are you producing BPCs for inventors, in which case research levels are irrelevant, or for producers? Producers *tend* to over value high ME research but start by looking at what the current market tends to sell. And look at ME level examples on sites like http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/market.php?group_id=2

3. Again, depends. Some inventors will want max run, some inventors will want single run depending on what they're inventing and what decryptors they typically use. Producers are more varied, smaller items are probably weighted in favouring max runs with larger items happy with single runs but that's pure hunch.

On the plus side, we have acquired several hundred T1 blueprint copies of various types at no cost to us. So the research time is technically irrelevant if we want to be the lowest seller, it would be easy. However, we were looking for a structured method of pricing, which you have given, with the exception of the # of runs. Should they be worth more if you give them high run counts? How do you account for the pricing if you do. I mean, its just a variable you set correct? There is no time involved.

Even though these were free to begin with, certain associates of mine will be getting more into the BPC arena and we could really use solid info. Thanks for your input.

Yes they'll typically be worth more with higher run counts. And higher run counts take longer to copy so the typical structure would really be back to that of "how long did it take me to make this" against cost to run a POS for that time (divided by number of slots on that POS).

That site linked above has some good values for copy times, eg. Hobgoblin 1, max runs is 1500, which would take 4 hours with max science skill (other bonuses to copy time are available), and if you wanted to run just a single 1 run copy it would take 9 seconds.

You could also look at slot rental services (typically a good few in the sell orders section) to see what rates folks rent out slot time for another guide - try taking the best rates you get there and work out how much your BPCs cost "to make" if you had copied them with a slot rental service, then see how that price compares to the BPCs on the market.

I have to say it's not a market I'm particularly familiar with but my *impression* is that BPCs are not particularly profitable but once you're set up can make a nice relatively passive stream.

It's pretty easy to find a customer that wants a steady stream of BPCs for their invention but the downside is that they want it cheap, perhaps even cheaper than what you paid for it (in terms of POS fuel).
