You are right if you use 4 low and 3 mid slots, you are able to deal 800 dps at 85km range, with the dominix.

Garde II has 45km unmodified optimal range with perfect skill in the dominix, with 2 omni tracking links it's 68km and with 3 it's 78km which makes optimal plus falloff 90km.

But if you sacrifice the tank needed to free up the 7 slots needed for range/tracking/dps, can't most battleship do 800 dps at 85km?

You don't need tank since most NPCs cant hit you at that range

And no, not many battleships can actually project 800 DPS to 90km,

this is true with the exception of guristas (they tend to use missiles and rails with appropriate ranges).

this is also true. i just happened to run a few standard missioning fits through pyfa yesterday. the only ships that can project comparable numbers to the dominix are the various cruise missile boats (with the caveat of flight time and tricky damage application) as well as the rail vindi and tach nightmare.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Actually several of them can. Anything with cruise missiles, anything with Tachyons. All of the pirate ships should be able to do it. All the Marauders also.

Just came to the same conclusion, T1 turret based battleships do struggle to reach the same optimal at anything close to 800 dps, and they have a hard time even getting to 800 dps.

On the other hand they are not limited to one single ship, and have both implants and faction ammo and modules available, which put even navy ships well above 800 dps at comparable ranges, and they are able to apply damage at more then 85km range.

I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

You don't want to use gardes at optimal+falloff. if your optimal is 78km, then you have only 40% of optimal dps at 90km.

Domi tank can be, 1x rep, 2x resists, 2x aux nanos, 1x med cap injector, so yes you can in fact get 4 lows, and 4 mids free, but you still can't use gardes at 90km without 2 DLAs, and a sebo (and the sebo probably has to be the rig).

I have run 3 omnis exactly once, and that exact once was for angel pirate invasion, which allows bouncers to snipe the scram/web elite frigates where they spawn at 25km from the beacon, not for deep range on the drones. ie the dominix application is unbelievable now, and allows you to run the thin tank because you can be absolutely sure stuff gets dead on schedule.

As my domi has 1 DLA, 1 drone control rig, 5 guns, it dealt 657 bouncer II dps, and 159 350mm spike L dps, total 816 dps @ 99km, most of which was explosive, and due to angels getting stuck in the scenery in that mission, that range was fully exercised, and I didn't need the cap booster due to the entirely reliable application. Used antimatter for the rest of the close spawn.
