I had the same problem, and it turned out it was a Ziggo problem.
I got disconnected pretty much every hour.

Ziggo is constantly busy with their network and configuring the modems for future use of WiFi-spots, and by doing this they mess something up in the modem settings.

So if you are a Ziggo user, all you have to do take the power of your modem for a couple of minutes and restart it.
Then you should have no problems anymore.

It worked for me.

Well i don't think I am a "Ziggo" user, but the reset (backed up by an Eve cache cleanout) did the trick. Its still weird it seems to only affect Eve when it happens, but if all it takes is to power down/up on the router its not exactly the end of the world.

Managed to run all accounts simultaneously on one machine for several hours, and multiples split across two with no issues after the digital enema.

Thx.

Same problem, several time per day, i check with a "ping eveonline.com -t" and site is not accessible but all others sites yes.
After some seconds or minutes, eveonline.com return up.
Try to change port into prefs.ini, create a port forward to 26000 and 3724 into router, reinstall Eve but nothing and nothing change if i reboot router and PC.
Just before last expansion of june my client working well...

Something to try again? Thanks.

Im also having this problem. Note: this ONLY happens to my laptop, not to my pc who is next to it.

The weird thing is, it seems to be a problem with some packet loss, but my pc and laptop are both connected to the same hub.
I've made a pingplotter from my connection to eveonline.com

http://i.imgur.com/K4VbwEE.png

In the bottem section you can see the standing up red lines? Well, these are packet loss lines, as in 100% packet loss.
And theres ALOT of them.

Now Im guessing its something on my laptop, since my pc is fine, but I cant see how this would work. The packets are lost outside of my network for my laptop, but not for my pc.

I hope someone can shed some light on it.

Have tested all of the following suggestions to no effect:

1
Tested a hard reset of my modem and router...they were turned off (unplugged) for well over an hour whilst I did other things.
Turned it all back on, logged in, soon thereafter another connection loss.

2
Having "ping plotter" running in the background constantly pinging Tranquility-IP.

3
Changed the socket from 26.000 to 3724 in prefs.ini

4
I have not tested reinstalling the game, but I have tested using the repair-tool.
This will be my next test for tonight.

General information : I'm from Sweden, not the Netherlands, and I do not use Ziggo (as some people had an issue with them apparently)

The message I get is something like "Connection lost, socket closed". (Restart/Quit)

The issue started occuring approx 1 week + 5 days ago.

I run 3 PCs and 4 accounts spread over them. One of these is a laptop, the other two stationary.
One of the stationary PCs never experiences crashes, the laptop and the other stationary always crash in the order, laptop first, 20 seconds later the stationary crashes as well.

All PCs are hooked up to the same ISP via the same router.

I have no issues whatsoever connecting to other games or services, all of which run flawlessly with no connection losses.

Any suggestions on other things to try?

in my eagerness to share - I started a new thread before I saw this one - I apologise for my haste.

ill copy what I said here as well in case it is useful to anyone who would look here first.

I was getting 2 closed socket errors one over the other quite a lot - it ranged from once every hour to 5 or 6 times an hour depending on how annoying it wanted to be.

after changing my IP, router, all of my hard drives (which meant a clean install of both win7 and eve) and changing from Wi-Fi to cable, only to find the problem was still there.

I found an article about win 7 having problems with some network cards - in the end I went to my device manager and right clicked on my network device, selecting "properties" -> "advanced" and turned the "Interrupt Moderation" to "Disabled"

apparently, the "Interrupt Moderation" tries to stop packets of data so the computer can keep up with large amounts of data that it can receive.

since I've done this I've had no errors at all .

I just thought that I would share this as when I was looking for a solution all I could find was posts about pinging things and blaming ccp - so if your having the same problem, it's worth a try (even if it turns out to be something else)

Tried the above (changing network settings to disable interrupt moderation) and still getting disconnected constantly.

Running pingplotter, I am having no packet losses and an average ms of 60-70. Still getting disconnected, without the pingplotter showing any difference.

Have tried resetting my router, clearing my cache, reinstalling network card. My cable is not damaged, and I am getting annoyed :p

What I don't understand is that I rarely disconnect on all my accounts at the same time. I usually run 4 accounts, and generally never dc on more than 2 at a time.

It is a big problem that it can be caused by so many different things..
I've had the socket closed problem for 5-6 days and it came from one day to the other, it was happening 1-2-3 times per hour
and to all the accounts i had running at the same time.

What finally fixed it for me was a clean install of eve, resetting my router and portforwarding.

I've been running all noon around 4 hours with out a single socket closed error.
Maybe if you have the sisi client installed it can screw things up aswell?
But similare to a lot of you other guys, my problem was with EvE only. I did'nt lose my internet connection or have had problems in other online games, well except for COH ofc P

Yesterday I had no problems, stayed online all day with no disconnects. The day before I could not stay online for more than 5-10minutes, today its the same thing.

Nothing on my end has changed (that I know of). Using the same pc, same router, same everything. Not changed any settings in game or in windows.

I also have the socket closed issue since a few days.

This MUST .... i repeat MUST be a CCP problem.

I also never had that problem with ANY other game ... only with EvE.

Over 135 pleople have already reported this issue in THIS thread, and there are many more threads about the same issue on the forums.

CCP is not going to tell us that the issue is with HUNDREDS OF DIFFERENT ISPs around the world, and hundreds of different players have a bad Internet connection whereas it works well with everything else EXCEPT EVE, are they? Big smile

On a side note:
We all know that CCP has had an unusual amount of server issues, including unexpected downtimes, or players not beeing able to connect more often in the last few months than the last 2 or 3 years.

We re all thankful for the skillpoints we got as a reeimbursment though ,-)

Okay for the sake of variety: I get the closed socket error most during incursions. Jus enough to stop me making ISK. I'm in the UK on Virgin media for my wifi. And after very slow and careful reading of instructions I was able to change the port to 3724. I'm going to attempt to clear the cache then I'm heading back into the game. I will add to this post to let you know how I did.

Family, Corporation, and State, in that order. What else is there worth fighting for?

We'll see if it works.

Good luck, and dont forget to let us know if it works.

Also, here is what i posted in the "possible fix" thread.

Shadow' Broker wrote:
I am still keep having the same issue.

Even worst these last 2 days, it happens like every 10 - 15 Minutes. It starts to be VERY annoying.

Now like 20 minutes ago i have had the CCP Server log Application running in the background, and SURE as hell, after 10 minutes of being logged in, the Socket was closed again.

looking at the server log application, it states the following at the moment the socket closed:

50403 2013.07.25 12:49:19:155 Sending event: ship_effect_jumpdrive_out_play to game object 999 (effect_1010196060716_effects.JumpOut)

50405 2013.07.25 12:49:19:301 Exception during MachoTransport::Close ignored.
50406 2013.07.25 12:49:19:301 Creating Closed Packet: The socket was closed exception:error(10054, 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host')
50407 2013.07.25 12:49:19:301 Couldn't send close packet, rhe socket is probably already closed. [Errno 10054] An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host: 'descriptor not alive'

The list goes on .... and on ... and on,

but i dont want to swarm the forum with the whole thing.

I want to send the entire fille together with a petition or a bug report.

Lets see what happens.

I really hope someone will actually AT LEAST try and so something about it..

+1

I do have the issue at home as well as in the office (hrhrhr).

but most often at home when I run two clients.

and I confirm: it's annoying.

Please do something about it. I honestly doubt that it's a pc/network or other issue on my side. Everything else runs smoothly, just not Eve.

And even Eve works every now and again without flaw.

Another possible fix: There is another active thread on this subject. And I have looked through both of these for solutions.

One of my computers started doing a lot of disconnect after the Tueday 30th Server reset, while the older computer has never done it. 1st off it was not my ISP as one puter was fine and the other trash.

Someone said to look in my system events, and that was the tip that helped me fix it.
(Via Computer --> Manage --> Event Viewer --> System Tools ---> Windows Logs -->System and filter for critical level events)

Some of my services were put on delayed startup, and in the case of my Nvidia updater it was starting after 30 minutes. Naturally when I have a disconnect I do normal stuff like rebooting the computer to refresh it. And that then started the 30 min timer on that update service again. The updater generated an error in the logs because it could not log onto some NVidia server for an update because something had screwed a password field. It was also within a second of the "socket closed" client closed error from Eve.

Put simply a bad service and updater from Nvidia sent a ping of junk like an error log that made Eve think it was not looping with the client, when it just needed to wait a second more or something.

Fixed the Nvidia drivers via uninstall, and update and the socket problem seems better.

My tip is to Google for a site on performance boosting with info on what services and procedures are actually needed on a gaming rig, there are many windows services that simply chew system resources and create more things to go wrong. An example being I don't have a printer on my gaming rig so the printer spooling services are disabled.
