Choosing faction for small gang and solo pvp

Well, after 2 months switching between factions and testing fits I finally decided to make a thread.

I made several searchs before, but they were too old or lack important information.

I'm a player that usually enjoy more CQC than long range fights, also I like speed and drones.

I tried minmatar ships and did several fits on eft. But their dps seems lacking, and even if several people say that minmatar is the best faction for learning pvp. I feel that having to choose between several ammo to optimize the dps is hard when you don't really know which kind of tanks your target usually have.

I tried gallente and I had better results with them. Specially with the tristan. But I feel that kitters really hurt them.

Amarr looks like a solid choice, but the lack of mid slots keep my fits away from getting jammers or other sort of EWF. Sometimes I can't even fit a single web.

Caldari Condor looks like a good sniper with scrambling capabilities. But choosing a faction with just one available fit for solo pvp is something im trying to avoid.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong with minmatar ships, because I normally barely scratch my target. I can't even do 2 rep cycles before blowing up.

I didn't tried T2 guns, but I used some faction ammo, mostly on my minmatar fights, because, with standar ammo, my scratches were... well... tickles.

So what I'm asking for? Your actual personal opinion and experience, on small gang and solo frigates pvp.

Sorry for my bad english, and thanks for your answers.

you want CQC? Use Incursus, Catalyst, Thorax, Brutix, Talos, Hyperion, and their variations. They can wreck **** with neutrons.

EFT is overated!

For solo frig PVP the amarr Navy Slicer is awesome. The minmatar Slasher and Amarr Executioner are both awesome frigs.

TII frigs pwn even better, the Caldari Harpy tanks like a beast when fit correctly, the amarr retribution is a nice rounded frig though has limited mid slots but nice DPS, the gallente Enyo is a really nice frig with drone bay as drones are probably the best anti-frig weapon in the game due to their ability to keep DPS laid on a target even when jammed etc

TII guns are sooo much better then T1 guns.

Get them!

Ps - Also frigates are aimed towards different uses. Some are geared towards E-war, some are lacking DPS but have the ability to hold tackle for long periods, some are just fast with ranged turrets. Check out the TII frigates to give you an idea of the different uses they have then look to see how the Ti variants compare to the role you want. Sounds to me like a Slicer may be right up your street, fast and lots of DPS!

Train in a faction where it's strong points you prefer to play with.

I like Minmatar because of the autocannons and arty. When I started playing EvE I played around with hybrids, missiles and projectiles, and just liked the raw hit power projectiles can offer. On the smaller ships it will tear them apart. With artillery battleships will feel the pain.

Like the Drake ship because it has a good tank, and if need be, that's what I'll play with in small group PvP. Tank the fight, offer the warfare links for buffs, put pressure on them to stay 30+ KM away (missile volleys will do that and they'll be on me, since it's going to h-u-r-t otherwise), so my allies can close the distance and pewpewpew. Cheaper than a T3, and can line up a fleet of them for the same price. Being sidelined because a shiny got aced isn't fun.

But since you like drones (and more than for EW), the faction that fights with them than just support is Gallente. Drones and hybrids aren't my cup of tea, so no advice there.

No offense, but if you're being kited regularly by other frigates in a Tristan, you should re-examine both your drone skills, and what you might be doing wrong. Most kiting setups don't take kindly to a flight of 5 Warrior II's climbing their ass.

You could also fit a MWD, long point, shield tank, and a couple rails with Spike ammo, and become the kiter yourself. Rails + drones keeps you well out of range of most brawly things.
