Mac client since odyssey

I started playing EVE just a week or two before the odyssey roll out, and I am on a Macbook Air 2011 edition. I thought the graphics were impressive and the game play even more so.

But since the odyssey roll out the mac client sucks. All sorts of odd display glitches, like with item images not showing properly and every now and then planets look like I took a hit of LSD or something.

Then recently the FPS went to hell in a hand basket.

I did a clean install of my whole machine thinking it was just my mac needed a good format. But nope no such luck.

I even lowered the graphic settings as low as they go and still it's a peace of sh**.

I then said hell with it and boot camped my machine and let me tell you. The performance and graphics on max are amazing running on windows. I see things like tail lights on the ships that I never saw on the mac client, along with actual ships explosions and such. Just goes to show you either CCP shafted people on the mac with their crappy mac version or Apple put too many hardware access restrictions to be able to render things properly.

Fun fact: If you go digging into the files of the Mac client, you will find that it is just a glorified Wine wrapper(please correct me if i'm wrong). I'm going to assume that the graphics take a hit because of this. For the record, I'm running on a macbook pro late 2011. I've also noticed that the FPS has dropped a bit, though I don't notice it unless i'm running three clients

Hmm that makes me wonder. Well none the less it works far better on Windows than on OSX. If you boot camp your machine I am sure you will be able to run those three clients without a problem.

It's a shame that the mac client isn't getting the love it needs.

CCP is pretty much inline with other companies in this regard. Most mac games are wrapped pc game ports. recently went to fulltime mac use and have can see variations from other games with pc use still somewhat fresh in mind.

To my knowledge only so much you can do with the wrappers out there. But to me its better than bootcamp in that I don't have to reboot to play a game. I found eve in window mode helps alot in many areas.
