What's up with all the 111,111.11 and. 100,000.00 bounties I see on pilots?

Is this some sort of inside joke?

edit: how do you collect bounties?

People will put bounties on random people for fun, its pretty meaningless to be honest so i would just disregard it.
100K is the minimum bounty you can put on someone.

For how to collect a bounty, when you destroy a persons ship you get 20%(?) of the ships value paid to you as a bounty. Same goes for the pod if someone has implants i think.

Bounties are useless at this time. Anyone can put a bounty on anyone for any reason. You can only get 20% of the value you blow up. On top of that, you will still get shot down in high sec and your sec stat can go down if you try to become a bounty hunter. (giving the person you are shooting out has a OK sec status or hasn't war dec you)

Hell is around every turn. It's your choice to go in it or not. Please check out the Rookies in EVE video playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLioOFeHwQV5yNk2vpz8wX9hihLVQEIKLt

Bounties are indeed pretty useless, and some people will put them on others just to spite them or induce rage filled hate mails and petty squabbling. These small bounties are relatively useless all things considered because it isn't worth chasing people down for those bounties. But mostly, it's for pissing people off.

Small bounties are an excellent way of finding some extra pvp. You just put small amount on some newbs and in return you get message when and where the bounty is payed when they inevitably die. A lot of people (especially new players) tend to return to that spot. All you have to do is wait for them there and bam, you caught a fish...

Even with a large bounty it'll be real hard for someone to collect on it.

Just gotta stay attentive to what's happening around you on grid, keep your defensive tank active and be ready to warp away if needed, don't incur a suspect / criminal flag, have undock / safe spots created and always travel doing warp to 0 (no auto-pilot).

That should help provide a good measure of safety.

Honestly, so many players have bounties on them that anyone trying to make money as a "bounty hunter" might as well try to make money squashing atoms. Yes, sometimes if I'm waiting for a skill to finish training or if I'm on my miner alt (bored out of my mind) I will start looking at the character sheets of other players in systems with me and it seems that more of them have bounties than not. Only the really large ones - say, over 20 million isk or so -- ever stand out to me.

I put bounties on hauler pilots. It's fun, and some of the eve mails I've received have been pretty priceless.

It's just something I do, no real reason when I started.

Bounties are fun and do in fact promote more PVP due to the fact that many people still don't seem to understand how they work.

Is that what it's about??? Pfft, I've seen these bored players sitting outside stations and as folks undock if you don't have a bounty they place one on you.

How bored players must be to sit outside stations just to look for players to put bounties on, pretty lame.

Yeah because your playstyle is so much better than theirs right. Seriously you look more like a fool when you putdown other players style. If you cannot accept other peoples p[laystyles you shouldnt be playing this game because you have some srious issues most likely selfesteem issues. You say "How bored players must be" have you ever thought maybe this player has alts actively fighting in another system while this alt throws bounties on noobs hmmmmm no you didnt instead you decided to insult a playstyle on the forum without actually thinking before you post. Dont worry you wont be around too long with that attitude.

Ever thought of seeking out help to deal with your anger management problem? Your reaction is far from what should be considered a normal human reaction to an opinion. I sincerely hope you are role playing here.

Lets try this another way...

In my overview, neutral players with bounties have a black background. Players (neutral) without bounties do not. I will not be satisfied until all neutral players have a black background, for until then, it offends my delicate sensibilities.

You may see a bored pilot, but know that the eve mails that pilot receives are often worth the minutes they spend sitting there. Blink
