From what I have read and saw, the ME and PE of the original blueprint copy that you make copies from in order to initiate T2 Ship invention is NOT a factor regarding the result of the T2 blueprint you are inventing.

In short. Does the ME/PE of a ship BPO/BPC have a effect at all on a resulting T2 Ships BPC ME/PE?

afaik they don't. ME/PE is controlled by decryptors

What I'm trying to figure out is, should I research these T1 ship BPOs to the point where it just cost me a minimal amount of waste to make the t1 version for eventual t2 production or should I go really high on the ME/PE on the t1 BPOs, which will take awhile. That's the real question.

The answer to that question:

How high do you need the ME/PE to build the ships cheaper than you can purchase them off the market and move them to your manufacturing home?

Quite often, you can buy ships off the market cheaper than you can build them. This is especially true of Cruiser, BC, and BS hulls (at the moment) because the last several patches significantly increased the material costs in building ships, and the "old stock" hasn't been sold off.

The only thing the ME and PE affect is your manufacturing of the T1 hull. It has no effect whatsoever on the invention process or on the output of the invention process.

Hence, take the ME/PE to a point you're comfortable for building the T1 version (if you build it rather than buying it). No need to go higher

Depends on the type of ship, but most likely in the case of frigates, the extra bit you save on t1 prod' for one unit can be swallowed by market fluctuation on the t2 version.
Go for minimal t1 research, I'd say, or run the numbers on IPH first.

When it comes to /any/ form of invention, the only reason to research the T1 blueprint you'll be copying, is if it's worth your time making the item required by the final invented blueprint.
