First off sorry for any poor grammar, i am writing this post on A phone. Secondly i am sorry if this is the wrong place for this type of question.

Long story short..

I was splorin' low sec on my cheetah and saw a player in local so i loaded up some sisters combat scanner probes to see what i could find. So after scanning i see its an industrial ship (awesome).

I warp cloaked, scope the scene, bookmark, warp, jump, dock, hop in my rifter and gun it back out there.

I warp on top of this mammoth and i close in fast. Lock and... huh? I hit warp scramble and when i press it there is a yellow ring around it and a wierd beeping sound.... erm ok... guns... same thing... web.. same thing... hmmm...

I confirm calmly i am locked on.. check... trying to scramble again. Nothing. My module just will not turn on. I pulse my mwd to see if its me, and it works fine. I try to scramble again... nothing but a yellow ring and a beep. Im getting pissed now my target who was probably afk is back and has warped away. Rage...

I dunno what happened, i am a newer player who has been semi afk skill training for the last year and now im finally starting to make eve my main game to play. I just want to know if any vets know what game mechanic stopped me from getting my first real eve kill.

Ps: any WH or small gang pvp corps looking for members??

You had your safety set to green. This means that you cannot perform actions that will criminally flag you (low sec or high sec) or suspect flag you (high sec or low sec). Turn it off entirely (red) and enjoy your ganking. It is found to the top left of your HP UI display.

Safety was on.

Just as a hindsight 20 thought, this is why it pays to play while you train.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

Safety is on green then , above your hud is a small button wich is green. to attack sombody it needs to be yellow in low sec.

Safety settings. See that little green dot down by your shield, armor, and structure Hp? I bet it is green. that means you can only perform legal actions. Shooting a non-flagged ship in low or hi sec is a hostile action.

Next time, click on that icon and choose the red option. Just remember to later change it back as you run the risk of attacking someone in hi sec and getting killed by concord.

The main reason i havent played in the last year was moving out my own. I couldnt take the desktop that me and my dad would share, and my laptop is hardly capable of running eve even on lower end settings. Just sitting in stations updating my skill queue was a lag fest

you don't need to explain yourself as to the why's or how you don't understand a completely horrible game mechanic.

especially since before when you wanted to activate your guns, it'd pop up and ask you so this kind of a situation wouldn't happen.

but yeah... turn the dumb 'yes I want to pvp in a pvp oriented game' safety switch to the red/off position.

It was dumber that you had to answer the question every time instead of being able to set safety to red.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

No dumb is accidentally shooting can when you ment to shoot a pod.... in high sec. Didn't know you got KR for shooting cans.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.

Safety Red = I want to be able to do stuff that will make players, CONCORD, NPC police, and station/gate guns shoot me. (Gate guns stop firing after I leave grid)
Safety Yellow = I want to be able to do stuff that will make players, and possibly station/gate guns shoot me. (Gate guns stop firing after I leave grid)
Safety Green = I want to only be able to do stuff that will not give anyone new shooting privileges on my head. I can still shoot "legal" targets (war targets, pirates, etc)*

More details can be found here, and even more in the related dev blog.

Remember, to turn into a trigger-happy maniac shooting everything in sight, use safety red (or orange, if you are a trembling weakling who fears CONCORD Pirate).

* Shooting anyone, regardless of your safeties, gives them the right to shoot back, via the limited engagement flag. See the links above for more details

I am pretty sure this is incorrect. Shooting a suspect as Safety Green starts a Limited Engagement with them, doesn't it? That falls under "new shooting privileges".

LOL @ PvP in lowsec with safety on.

If you take the padding off the nerf bat, you get a handy plastic baton that hurts much worse. Not that I engaged in such unscrupulous activities when I was younger....

PS- putting a little graphite on the inside of the foam part made it easier to put back on when your little bro runs to mom.... not that im admitting to anything....

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
