Ganking Jump Freighters

Reading through the killboards I've noticed several ganks of jump freighters in high sec that are either empty or carrying well below the $1 billion isk cargo threshold that is usually advised.

Is this just people padding their killboards? If so, how safe is it to travel through high sec in an empty jump freighter?

Only the gankers can tell ... Probably the gankers had no scanners and expected to catch a full load of expensive stuff ... or they killed it for the lulz to collect tears ... or killed it for their killboards on external websites to "rank up" about how much ISK they destroyed ... Only the killers will know why they did it.

High Sec space is not safe space ... be aware that you are playing at a PvP server and piracy is a mechanic of the game. The deal in high sec is that the attacker will lose security status plus its ship. In Low Sec and Null Sec Concord will not appear to help you. The lower the high security status of the system the longer it takes until Concord will come to protect you.

The most important rule in EVE is:
Never buy a ship you can't afford to lose!

It's a 7b kill. Cargo's a bonus.

Next question please.

Looking at eve-kill, I see 4 JF suicide-ganks so far this month, 3 were at a loss, one was marginal at best. All were goons. The NC freighter was almost certainly killed because it was in NC. the other 3, its hard to tell, but goons has been known to try to gank out of alliance JF alts if they know who they belong to and don't like them. I'd wager that is what the 4 this month are the result of. As its goons, its also possible its just for tears, but I'm still saying they were targeted.

Goons need to make an example of some JFs every now and again (even at a loss) to make their Miniluv whitelist fees more viable.
