I love how this forum has nothing to do with the actual market and is just people asking for money promising fair returns were there some sort of contractual method in game to ensure functional financial services.

Collateral is a valid method, albeit not contractual.

What did we learn from the last trillion stolen?

How on earth do you guarentee someone gives back collateral? Or is there a method to ensure this which has somehow eluded me? Eh, just sounds like something I wouldn't mess with - but I'm sure there are some who have had legitimate loans in the past. Collateral just sounds like a double-or-nothing bet.

Eh, I guess to be fair the first few posts I ended up looking at were 11% interest kind offers without collateral. The 2% paid back in five months with the folks with ungodly amounts of ISK seems more along the lines of legitimate things.

Exactly. This post explains it very well:

There are splurts where there are lots of loan requests (Usually just after an expansion), but there are also periods with market questions, although many people just hop into one of the ingame channels

Well, I would (totally non biased ofc!) recommend the SCC-Lounge channel, and GMBA or Syndicate Rookie Trader (The last two are for people who might feel more comfortable not asking in the Lounge)

Trust in Chribba/Grendell/etc is the general way to ensure the collateral is appropriately administered.

Basicly, thats no answer, as OP says - what did we learn from the last trillion stolen?
So "trust", is where everything comes to an end eventually :)

Chribba and Grendell make more from their reputation than they could by stealing what they have access to at any given time.

Who?

Nobody (that I know of) said "they make more off their reputation than they could steal at any given time" of either Phaser or EBANK. Their (stated) business model, in fact, ensured the opposite.

Anyway, Chribba's been going strong for almost 10 years.

That anyone can claim to have stolen a trillion isk, actually doing it is another matter.

The best time to scam is AFTER you have all the isk and BEFORE you have put in a whole lot of work to earn it.

For Chribba that time has long passed. Now, if he was to scam, he would be selling his hard earned and unequalled reputation for a pittance. I don't know Chribba very well, but I do know he's not stupid.

Its like people dont learn from history. This post doesnt have enough available chars to count all the times people betrayed life long trust.
You sir, sound rediculous with that optimistic statement. And forgive me on harsh words - are also a fool in eve as in real life.

so if there exist more than 0 people who betrayed lifelong trust, this automatically disqualifies all people from being trustworthy? you know there have been people dying in car crashes, so you should never travel anywhere. ever.

I should buy an Ishtar.
