Would a TE/TC range nerf help bring hybrids in line?

Was just thinking about it, figured I'd get the forum's opinion. This would obviously not fix ALL of the problems with hybrids, but I think it might be a start.

For short range guns, tracking enhancers are much more effective on autocannons and lasers, since applying bonuses to big numbers yields even bigger bonuses. Blasters benefit the least.

For long range, anything past 150k or so is about useless. Railguns are made useless because their niche is firing out near the edge of the grid. Nerfing range mods also helps reign them in, bringing their niche range a little closer.

This also helps bring scorch in line, since currently it has taken over the role of some sniping ships...IMO that's a little ridiculous.

This shouldn't affect small hybrids too much, since they're not as bad as the medium/large variants and frig fits don't generally include range mods.

So, blasters aren't quite as lacking on range compared to the other two, and rails can actually make use of having longer range, meanwhile laser and projectile users continue doing what they were doing before, for the most part.

Now obviously this would take some getting used to, and would change quote a few FOTM ships (particularly the abaddon in blob warfare), but does anyone see any glaring issues here?

you should read the dev blog, blasters ar already receviving a tracking buff, and railguns are getting a 10% damage increase in the winter expansion. also why would you nerf the greatest advantage of railgun? to make it behave Like other weapons? no, every weapon in EVE have its own purpose. btw blaster has the same tracking as auto and pulse, go check the numbers, its just that their range is closer so the target's transversal is larger, which gives u the illusion that its tracking sux.

I never said anything about changing the tracking bonuses on those modules. Read the title more closely, hmm?

I'm well aware of the changes, and everyone is well aware that they won't bring hybrids in line.

As for railguns, the greatest advantage of them is indeed range, and it would still be their biggest advantage after the change. In current form, though, their biggest "advantage" is useless, since sniping past 150km doesn't exist as a common scenario. Nerf the range mods, and the extra range you get from railguns might actually be useful.

Caldari has the range you are missing as gallente versus the other races, still has issues.

NErf te and arty as a weapons system dies sub BS ships. Lets not have AC minmatar ships the only thing worth flying please. I like seeing arty muninns out and about. Eve does need more vaga's because its a waste of time to fly muninn with crap te.

Lets see how the winter patch hooks up these guns. On paper I kind of like them. At some point I may even eft a lolrox and eagle and then finally even get motivated to fly them after patching.

that is player choice not game. More specifically that is FC choice. I have had fc's go okay I got me megas and rokh's....ok, you peeps go to this warp in now. FC's like this....I liked. Put your faith in the fleet required fit system again. Cool....fleet has me running guns and ammo to shoot from here and lands me there, sweet. then you get your bad fc's. Blob on one warp in. Tell me again why fleet spec has me snipe fit snipe ammo when I could be running shorter range more ballzy since landing with the shorter ranged bs' anyway?

Now if your fc's aren't doing this...take some initiative. add some km's to the warp in called. Eft the other fleet fits of alliance, see the range they get and guestimate your warp in around that. gets your mega or rokh at ranges its meant to be. With the added bene all those laser and projectile ships will be meatshields most likely. Eve a cold place lol.

"Would a TE/TC range nerf help bring hybrids in line?"

TE should have 15% falloff bonus, not 30. This simple change will solve a lot of issues.

Scorch itself just needs nerfing into the ground.

Nothing should be nerfed into the ground, ever. Scorch is definitely a bit ridiculous at the moment, though, and hail will also be after the update I think.
