Performance Issues After Plugging in Charger for MacBook Pro

I just started playing EVE again recently and it runs fantastic on my MacBook Pro late '11... However, after being in another room I come back to recharge the computer while still running the game and it becomes completely unplayable due to the extremely low frame-rate. The only thing that changes is me plugging in the charging cord...
Sometimes unplugging the cord helps but even so it feels like it's limping on.

I have no idea why something so seemingly trivial would trigger such a reaction but It's happened on numerous occasions in just the few days I've been back

System Stats:

MacBook Pro
15-inch, Late 2011
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

I'd really like to solve this issue as it has continued to persist even after several patches. In fact performance is starting to suffer regardless of whether or not I've just plugged in. Please help, I've been trying many things like ending all background tasks, making sure I have the latest software updates, etc...

According to support.apple.com your MacBook Pro should also have a AMD HD6770M with 1GB GDDG5 and automatic graphic switching. This card will play EVE much better than the HD3000 but will eat the battery faster.

Do you know if you are running EVE on the HD3000 or the HD6770M when on the battery?
If you go into the graphic setting in EVE it will tell you what graphics card you are using.

Your Mac may be trying to switch between the graphics cards when you plug and un plug the charger.
You can turn off Automatic Graphics Switching in System Preferences -> Energy Saver before starting the EVE client and this might help.
Here are some article from Apple on Automatic Graphics Switching.

That seems to have solved the problem! Big smile Thank you so much. I'll continue testing to make sure I wasn't just lucky somehow...

And seemingly out of the blue it has reoccurred. Sad

Back to the drawing-board. Ugh
