How to get back on track?

Hello fellow capsuleers,

When I last played EVE I tried being a pirate, found a nice corp but soon recognized I needed Iskies to buy Rifters, so I got a missioning alt into a Drake and didnt resub because its just so mindnumbingly boring to "mine hulls".

This time I want to take an alternate approach to EVE. I read threads like this one Advice on New Player's ships and I want to take the Frigate Route. Im training for Core Competency Standard Certificate right now and plan on going for T2 Frigates afterwards (AF, CovOps, Bombers).
I want to fight small-scale PVP, mostly solo (I dont exactly know what I want to do in EVE so I dont want a new corp yet, I think)
I want to explore (I really enjoy this, but I dont want to only explore in Highsec)
I want to fly wherever I want to fly, be it High, Low or Nullsec ( thats why Im going for Cloaking and later Blockade Runner too, so I can set up my base of operations wherever I want

Now my Sec Status is -4.4 which means access to 0.5 right? And If I want to improve it I need to Rat.. in a Frigate/Dessie.. Is there even a point to that?

Where should I start? Can I actually have fun exploring and roaming whenever I feel like it without a corp to back me up? Most of Lowsec seemed to be either baits, blobs or armed-to-the-teeth-T2 Pilots ripping me a new one. Any advice? Can I explore with CovOps + Frigs/Dessies (AF soon) or should I wait for cruisers to attempt them?

eveboard character sheet btw

Am I forgetting something?
Any advice will be heartily appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this, I dont have internet at home for another 2 weeks, writing this from university so I cant answer right away :)

fly safe, dangerous, backwards or however you feel like flying and if youre Minmater, hopefully the duct tape holds ;)

Doing solo roams and lowsec exploring is very viable.
Im 3 weeks old and thats exactly what im doing. Im also doing random wardecs in highsec.
Everything solo.
Your playstyle is exactly what im doing and I enjoy it.
-4.4 limits your to 0.5 systems.
You can increase your standing by ratting in lowsec or just fint a NPC corp to do missions for in lowsec and start grinding :)

One thing to do to help your sec status is to train your social skills up. I cant remember which social skill it is, but there is one which helps with your sec status gains I believe. Might want to try that out. Otherwise, I would perhaps try to find a quiet lowsec pocket somewhere with some missions you can do to gain back some sec status. You dont need to grind missions mind numbingly - who would want to put themselves through such punishment - but if you do that here and there you can get your sec back. At the same time every 5-10 missions or whatever you like, you could do some scanning to see if there were any sites that you could check out to make extra isk. Another thing to consider is to make your own 1 man corp instead of staying in the newbie corp. The advantage here is that you can avoid taxes, and if you choose, wardec people from time to time. I am sure you could fashion yourself a nice little life down in lowsec doing this sort of thing.

Of course, Its not what I would do, as I think Eve is horrible without flying with other people, but to each his own. I personally, would not care about sec status and just find a 0.0 Alliance to join and move out to their space. That way you can get some people to fly with, a nice area of space to make isk in, and still have the freedom to roam around in small gangs or solo.

man you are a mirror image of me, you should read up on my posts on exploration and this thread

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=27094&find=unread

I did nothing but mission running for 2 years of eve, constantly unsubbing when i got bored after a month or so.

I still havent found a corp, and my biggest suggestion on that is to take your time and find the "right" one. You are trying to get back on track and don't know what you wanna do , so the right one probably isnt going to just pop up till you find out what you want to do in eve.

I am in the process of getting exploration going atm. I am starting in high sec while i learn it, my goal is 1 month in high sec and then i should have some decent isk and some decent experience.

i would start here

http://explorationalmanac.blogspot.com/2010/06/preface.html

out of all the guides on exploration this one really outlined it for me. Its easy to read, just follow the links on each day. I read the whole thing and it helped more than anything i have found on exploration.

im not very familiar with sec status, since i've yet to leave high sec. My goal is to move to low/null and do dangerous exploration while pvp'ing.

at, your 2mil sp, you may even think about just re-rolling too. i don't know what you have stashed in your unallocated though but taht can really get you moving in the right direction if it's a substantial amount.

That would be the skill Fast Talk. Basically that will increase the amount of security status gained for killing the single most highest bounty NPC within a 20 minute time limit. That timer can be reset to 0 by jumping to another system. The trick is to find a few systems that are connected and just go to each one.

.. Again forum deleted everything I posted when I pressed "Post".

Well, thank all of you for the help and input, what I read here sounds exactly like what I was looking for.
I guess I'll try keeping this character and ratting my sec status up.
Ill create my own 1man corp and maybe when I can fit & fly T2 Frigs I will look for a Nullsec corp and see if it suits me :)

btw, my training plan for the next year would look roughly like this:

anything you would definitely change? Remap is advised I take it? Never done it though, guess I will go with 22 Int 26 Per 17 rest (slightly faster in the first half of the year, slightly slower in the 2nd.. would cut on the time of the fitting skills a little more though; 21-27-17 would be best following EVEHQ and EVEMON)

Lastly, which ship would you recommend for clearing the sites and rats? Destroyers or Assault Ships? (Ships of those I can fly in due time)

Again, thank all of you. Maybe we will meet someday, guns blazing or not

Have fun

- Matt S.

You'd need racial cruiser V before going HAC.

(God, that's a long list ... thank [] my alt has already done most of it)

T2/Faction cruisers are great fun tho.

TBH I would push at least cruiser and battle cruiser skills up further in your list with the necessary gunnery skills. You dont need to max these out early, but I would at least get the cruiser to IV and BC to III as well as medium turrets to IV soon. The thing is, as much fun as flying frigates is, eventually you are going to want to get into something bigger. Waiting nearly a year to do so is totally unnecessary and will probably bore you to death. Getting into a BC earlier will give you better options for making isk via ratting, anomolies, exploration etc. Besides, that looks like you will be getting some nice skill training done.

Sounds reasonable.. I guess I will queue Cruisers/BCs and Medium Turrets ~behind Assault Frigates, if I need a little more Grid / CPU / survivability I'll squeeze in some more fitting skills before that.

So the list itself is ok, just getting to Cruisers/BCs sooner would probably be profitable, thanks :)

now my fingers are itching, cant wait for my internet to come back up :)
First time in EVE that I really want to do something, having the skills or not rather than waiting for skills and doing stuff in the meantime or not. Guess I am on the right path.

May space be rewarding for all of us

Take a look at FW. You can remain in an NPC corp. It's nullsec which is good for your sec status (and exploration) and there are plenty of fights on offer (not always good ones).
