Where's the PvP at?

I'm a fairly new player, about three months in. I've been playing Eve with a buddy from work, in our own small corp mainly just running missions, mining, building and selling hulls. Currently based in central Amarr space, and most of my combat skills are with Amarr hulls and weapons. I feel like I've seen and done about as many L4 missions as is interesting, and so I bought and fit a half dozen Punishers with what I felt was an OK set up and went looking for people to blow me up in a Null Sec pocket in the south east of Amarr, near the Amattar region. Place was empty. Poked around four or five systems, not a soul. Shot a few belt rats, drooled over the juicy planetary resources, but nobody in sight to pop my PvP cherry.

Is there any place an independent pilot can go to look for a fight? I'd rather remain with my corp so I can continue to cooperate with the industry and face roll some NPCs when I'm sozzled, and I don't really want to tank my security status. I feel like all the skill points I'm earning from here on out are in excess to my needs as a mission runner.

Head in to low sec and do some ratting in the belts. More than likely someone will come by and twiddle your fiddle. FW low sec space is especially active and people will either be pirates or aggress you first, so no sec loss! \0/

Thanks, I'll try that tonight.

The fit I'm using:

Punisher

Regenerative Plating II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Damage Control II
Heat Sink I

Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
Empty Mid Slot

3x Medium Pulse Laser II w. Scorch
Small 'Knave' I Energy Drain

Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Targeting System Subcontroller I
Small Algid Energy Administrations Unit I

How important is a point module? I'm pretty heavily CPU bound at the moment. Is it worth dropping the heat sink or the NOS?

Drop guns down a size, abuse the ship's bonus to armor resistence, fit a scram, use conflag instead of scorch, profit

Abusing ship bonus resistance doesn't necessarily mean to put a tank module in every slot of the ship. It could also mean that the bonus frees up slots for damage instead.

I think poster should look at some battleclinic fits, look at rating and read the discussion to get an idea what is strong sides and weak sides.

Punishers

And yeah, the go to pvp is usually found in militia lowsec. As a newbie it is a good idea to actually join a militia, you get to shoot the other guys without difficult sentry rules of engagement (hint; they shoot!), and it will be easy to join some fleets to get that aspect of pvp also.

Come to Syndicate. It's NPC null sec, so you can dock at stations.

The locals, however, are bloodthirsty. You will get a fight. Depend on it.

Nerfing High-sec is never the answer. It is the question. The answer is 'YES'.

I would recommend Curse or Syndicate. NPC null is typically a good spot for small gang and solo pew pew.

I just left the PC9 area of Syndicate. The Masquerade guys there tried to find me constantly, but never got me. I did get popped in my old 'cane a bit ago, but I left myself in a belt and had to step afk for 2 minutes when a roam happened to peek into the system I was in.

Can't say I didn't try to get away. Almost did, until they got an inty on me.

Good day:

http://brutorbullfighter.blogspot.com/ has a number of articles on where you can find fights.

Keep some things in mind:

* Always fly what you can afford to lose.
* Never ever think that a fight will be 1v1. It might be, but don't count on it.
* Always check local (local should be separate from all other tabs) to see who might be working with one another.
* Always watch dscan.... and when in a fight, shorten the range so you can see who might be coming in.

As you learn the various areas, you'll learn who groups (they don't have to be in the same corp / alliance), who solo's, what is flown most by whom, and who will honor a 1v1 (arranged or otherwise).

http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/wensley/The_Rifter_Guide_Solo_PvP.pdf is an awesome guide no matter what you fly.

Thank you.

I suggest reading Taurean's Blog:

http://flight-of-dragons.blogspot.com/

Especially his first posts. Everyone always says go buy 20 frigates and get them all blown up to learn pvp. This guy actually did it and documented every fight with a break down of fits, tactics, and after battle reports.

As far as looking for fights I suggest the Verge Vendor area. The Tuskers are based in Heverice and there is plenty of pew to go around within 8-10 jumps.

Confirming Tuskers give good fights in Heverice. They`ll even swap their ship for a t1 frig to give you a fair fight and give you a few tips after its all done. Not sure if they all do that but so far that is what I have seen. Blink

If you really want a fight just join RvB, yes there are a few rules that you have to follow (no midslot ecm or podding except against 3rd party WTs, etc) but basically, it is on demand PVP. You can log in, and almost always join a fleet, if not you can always make a fleet, if you don't like fleets, you can usually get a 1v1 in battlecruisers or below, don't see too many 1v1s in high ship classes though. Also, no one will rage at you if all you have is a t1 frig, and want to join a fleet which is nice.

Failing that, amamake top belt in a frig generally results in a fight pretty quick, or just hang around the pf-346 gate to highsec, there is usually enough traffic to keep things interesting.

Join a small corporation, especially one in nullsec. Go roaming around in a small gang and don't be afraid to lose. Also, if you want some bigger fleet battles, try to find a corporation in an alliance.

The hardest part of Eve PVP is getting over the fear of going out and getting ganked yourself.
