Check out infinity the quest for earth, theres a video that shows what it can do. Its incredible. Seamless space to planet flight, millions of clickable stars in space, no zoning / session changes. Its just an engine but its amazing.

I think everyone would love seamless game world. But even more advanced and "modern" game architetture still go some kind of zoning/session change. EVE system is maybe the more consistent and less annoying. And the only one able to handle thousand of players in the same "zone".

Infinity is just that: some cool video. But doesn't exists as product, not even an early game prototype. having good ideas is easy, the hard part is transforming ideas in operative projects and products.

Btw CCP already produced an atmospherical flight demo back in 2006: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pg1dzAvL2M

Infinity is an actual existing engine. It procedurally generates a single universe zone based on an initial seed. Each player is a bubble as they move from one location to the other the engine generates the same universe by running the procedural code, each player is its own solar system if you like When two players are in the same location the engine generates the same location and the players can interact with each other. Theres no session changes other than rendering other players, static objects as they appear to other players.

EvE is a great game. But its an old game. CCP have proven its a viable game. Screw dust, vampires and develop EvE II already. A lot of people will respond that its constantly updated but its core is 10 years old, its grid system is borked, its full of legacy code thats not loosely coupled, its restricted by old design concepts that relied on old hardware and software limitations that dont exist or have been largely mitigated by new hardware software and faster net speeds.

Give us EvE II. Ill give you my firstborn.

Oh yeah and please look at the infinity quest for earth system. Procedural universe generation and planetary flight.

yeah sure why not, but they should make it with naked goblins wielding swords in one hand and lazors in the other (dual wield ftw).

For games it is sequels that kill them because:
1. they take Dev time
2. they are the reason of playerbase segmentation.
3. they are rarely better than original.

That's true for MMOs, like EVE. I suspect the second point is the most serious, but for an offline game, this listing is likely moot, since player base will move with the version, even if it's not (significantly) better.

I'm against an EVEII, though. I like this version just fine, they can keep patching and expanding it, and there are a lot of places they can go without making a new installment...

I prefer having an step-by-step evolving EVE instead of an EVE II which splits player base and where you have to start again from the scratch with both skills and bugs and inbalances to be found.

so yea screw eve 2 that one sucked I like that were on eve 18, DOWN WITH THE NAYSAYERS!!! CCP your awesome love ya keep doing what you do and make my vargur better.

Been here since 2003. Same game. Expansions do not make it a new game. Just an old game with expansions.

Still doesn't uses above 2GB Ram and works on a single thread when our average hardware can handle thrice this with no much effort and 2 YO GC's with techs already obsoleted by newest already cheap.

I have this suspicion that the percentage of source code that makes up EVE that is retained from 2nd genesis is relatively small... We have no need for EVE II.

Screw that ..

CCP, buy up EGOSOFT and put their staff to work on Eve. The two worlds (X2 + X3 and Eve) already have such an immense shared pool that it can only be glorious.

Automated mining operations with programmable (simple if/when type of things) AI controlled ships?
- Never again need a human go elsewhere in order to play the game (silly isn't it?).

Player created and owned but AI controlled manufacturing base?
- Use players to supply it or program AI ships to do the hauling but prepare to defend the lines and assets.

Boarding of hostile capitals.
- Never again need ground humpers thumpers be denied the thrill of claustrophobia in zero-G .. put the to work fighting deck-by-deck to capture or destroy that enemy Titan (art department needs a challenge anyway, they are too comfy with space).

Etc.

PS: X-Universe has a steeper learning curve than Eve had in its infancy .. as in practically zero in-game help while being more complex ... how hard-core is that! Big smile

Do you honestly think that posting on the EVE forums that EVE isn't good enough and you want a different computer game and CCP make me a new computer game cos your old one sucks and is old and I want one that's better so you make me one that's better and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong and I've been here since the start so I know everything and I'm not bitter and and and....

doesn't make you seem like a douche?

Only devs know I guess. Its still constricted by old game design (discrete zones) and consequent session changes to jump between those. Its also built on a time where 100 v 100 was game breaking. I doubt they imagined thousands vs thousands would ever happen.

So you're complaining that EVE is light enough on resources that you can run it on a mid range to low end PC?

By 2015 market sales of tablets will surpass both PCs and Laptops combined. This is the future of computing and eve in its current state will run on it.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.
