Can we turn off the new jump animation?

A slider that adjusts the speed of the animation, and possibly a checkbox (always vote checkbox) to tone down the lighting in the warp tunnel would work nicely.

And to the people who seem to think that the new animation makes you more vulnerable when jumping, it doesn't. You start loading the grid before the animation ends. Poetic noticed this fact in his blog , and actively uses it as a tool to work out if he's jumping into an occupied grid. My corp has tested the new wormhole animations too, and those on grid do not see the exit animation until the person jumping has loaded grid, I'm pretty sure the same applies to gates.

Perhaps CCP is worried that if they give the option to turn off the jump gate animation and the scanning animation, then players will complain there was not much "meat" on this ~expansion~...

Ship changes have been ongoing. Data and relic site games and its slot machine returns reward those players with faster fingers (in my opinion). Hmmm, without looking at the patch notes, what else was offered? *thinks*

Oh, skills being slotted into racial designs and tech 3 ships not allowed in the third and fourth deadly dungeons - alterations.

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, [u]please[/u] give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

There's no problem guys. Let's not lose perspective. The devs are working on improving the animation. It's summer. Life is beautiful and I'm going to spend the day outside on my balcony reading a book with a beer in my hand. Maybe I'll go check out the local park while I'm at it. Nothing to stress about. EVE will be fixed shortly.

Also, if we're dicks about this, I'm guessing it will take twice as long to fix and the result won't be half as good. The best thing we can do is to say 'thanks for recognizing the problem' and chill.

I agree, let's not lose perspective. A few points to help keep that perspective in view:

1. Odyssey has been live for four weeks now, these issues have been reported since day 1.

2. Jump gate animation issues were also reported on the test center well before live, but these reports were ignored and the feature was launched anyway.

3. Some of CCP's own employees also reported having trouble with this issue. Instead of being recognized as a problem and treated seriously, they were ridiculed, and again, the feature was launched knowing there was a problem.

4. CCP has not said anything to indicate that a true fix will be implemented "shortly;" they have said that they are working to "improve" the animation, that the work is slow, will take time, and there is no ETA. There is no guarantee that any animation "improvements" will fix the issues at hand, and will not require further reworking taking even more months to get this fixed.

5. Again, we are not talking about a graphical or game play bug causing a minor inconvenience with game mechanics; this is a problem which is making customers physically ill.

With this perspective, it should be clear to see that this requires immediate attention. Short of a bug preventing the game from being played at all or wiping out players computers (boot.ini), this issue needs to be the number one priority for CCP. If they know it will take time to implement the change that they want, then there is no reason to not have put a stopgap measure in place as a temporary fix. The only explanation is that they regard the well-being of their customers so poorly that they don't think it is worth their time. Just "chilling" will only allow them to convince themselves that we don't care either.

Frankly, saying that "there is no problem," shows a complete lack of perspective.

For those who are physically affected by this animation sequence, it does make us more vulnerable. Not because of the way it loads, but because we either have to take our eyes off of the screen or alt-tab to something else, creating a window of time where our attention is not on the game at the end of the jump, and we are slower to react to whatever is waiting for us.

Seems like you may be exaggerating just a tad...

You see, the problem is that this issue only affects a vanishingly small percentage of the eve populace, and can be corrected by closing your eyes and counting to five at the appropriate moment. IMO, that makes the argument for immediate, drastic action somewhat less than compelling.

I think the bottom line, though, is that if you can't handle a a little bit of camera tilt & pan in a video game, then you will have a bad time when playing video games.

As I've pointed out before, taking your eyes off the screen means you lose focus on the game. When jumping into potentially hostile territory, those few seconds can put you at a severe disadvantage.

Also as I've pointed out, this isn't just about "a little bit of camera tilt & pan in a video game." To call it that is an understatement, and is frankly insulting. In my case, it's not just the nausea effects, but the migraine triggers of the flashing lights and colors in the tunnel. To be honest, I've been playing computer games for over two decades; this is the first time I've had one cause physical pain and discomfort. I don't understand exactly why this one is so much worse, but it is, and that is a problem.

The bottom line is that this issue is causing real life health issues for players. Regardless of how small a percentage of the total playerbase that is, it needs to be treated as a serious issue, not a "we'll get around to it eventually." Any less shows severe disrespect for customers.

That is exactly what it is, though. It's a three second camera pan/zoom, followed by a warp effect that looks pretty much like every other warp effect in the game.

Have you considered seeing a doctor? This doesn't sound like a normal reaction to a five second animation.

I think that there is ample evidence to suggest that CCP disagrees with your position, and I find it hard to fault them for that. Some people just experience motion sickness when playing video games, and that is in no way the fault of the developers. They can't cater to everyone's unique physiology at all times, and if you can't handle it, nobody is forcing you play. As CCP have already stated, they're looking into it, which is the reasonable thing to do. However, I don't think that comparing this to system-destroying bugs, and implying that CCP doesn't respect their customers is helping anyone.

The fact of the matter is that this is, indeed, a "get around to it eventually" kind of issue. CCP is a business, and you don't succeed in business by dropping everything and throwing all of your resources at an issue that 99.99% of your customers don't care about, and probably don't even know exists. I suppose that is a little harsh, but it is the reality of the situation, and calling CCP names is not likely to change it.

Have to say | do like the new animation and I do not understand when people say the speed of the camera swing is too fast?
As for the warp tunnel, I guess they could tone down the clouds slightly but otherwise I like the immersion it adds Smile
