Because it is either an exploit or bugs in 99% of other games.

People in EvE don't see it that way because EvE isn't like the other games (this is a game that crime is acceptable, something that MMOs don't, as it's not acceptable in real life).

Play more games and see what's acceptable in them across genres to get a real answer to your question (not asking a control group removed from conventions in gaming -- as crime and it's acceptance isn't the norm in games).

Could you just explain what the exploit in ganking a (Jump-)Freighter could possibly be?

And why should we in EVE care about what is acceptable in other games. This is the whole problem: People who think that because it is forbidden in some other game - it should be so in EVE.

When I come to the forum, I see posts from people crying about their Orca, Freighter or 3bil fit missionbear Tengu being ganked...

Ok, they wanna vent some of their frustration... fair enough,

But why do they refer to it like it's some kind of exploit... or bug... or something that shouldn't be happening?

They ask questions like: "CCP - what are you going to do about this?" / "CCP - how are you going to stop this?"

Some of these players have been playing for 8.9,10 years... surely they know the game by now?

This is EVE... your Jump Freighter CAN and WILL be ganked, that is EVE... yano... the game you have been playing for 10 years?

You should adapt to the game, the game should not adapt to you.

I don't get why you say you don't get it.

You've already answered your own question.

They don't understand what EVE is all about and think it is flawed as a result.

No they haven't

They are usually scrubs who have bought--in characters

They are low foul things that should be extinguished

And yes, they once again fail to understand the most obvious secret in EvE

And they want us to hold their hands and write it big in chalk on the blackboard

I hate them so very, very much

which games? maybe if you limited it to mmos or something

Every MMO.

And don't pull that gimmick that EvE is a sandbox either as an excuse.

If it's not designed by the devs as a mechanic, but players discovered it and used it to their advantage, it is an exploit.

That's player driven content, actually.... if it were and exploit then CCP would have forbidden it.

I'll meet you part way on wanting a bit more security in highsec, and i think CCP has done so as well. Recent changes to mining barges created a mining ship with a BS size tank. You can also put a BS size tank on a T2 hauler if you want to take the hit in cargo space. That will stop most drive-by shootings. Freighters need looking at, in my opinion, because they're a little too vulnerable but there are services like Red Frog that will allow you to transfer the risk to a 3rd party. It's not free to get your stuff moved but it's "risk free" which must be worth something.

There have also been some changes to mechanics to make high-sec ganking a little less like shooting fish in a barrel.... So clearly CCP has listened and taken measures to at least give high-sec players more tools for their tool boxx. If you decide to use them or not is the 2nd part. I would say that if people are getting ganked much in high-sec then something they're doing (or not doing) is probably the root cause.

For the rest, EVE online is a game where you aren't safe from "non consentual" PVP anywhere in the universe. It's designed to be like that and I think most EVE players would agree that it's one of the stronger points of this particular game. The only healthy attitude is to think of losing the odd ship as "the price of doing business"
