10-Second Self-Destruct

TL;DR - Self-Destruct takes 10 seconds, all modules and cargo are destroyed, your pod is destroyed too, you don't get insurance back, taking hull damage cancels self-destruct.

In EVE, we have very little leverage during a gank. Cargo and Industrial pilots are going to lose their ship and cargo once a gank starts as ganks are calculated attacks. So why not make it more interesting for the gankee?

Upon initiation, self-destruct counts down in bright red font from 10 down to 0. Upon reaching 0, the entirety of your ship is destroyed. Mods, cargo, everything goes up in smoke, leaving an empty wreck behind. The captain must remain on board during this process, and his pod is destroyed as well. All insurance money on a self-destructed ship is lost.

Self-destruct is a carefully engineered process, so all systems must be fully operational for the destruction to proceed, so any ship that takes hull damage during the countdown aborts its self-destruct sequence.

Pretty much this. Self-destruct is for quitters and wussies. There should be nothing special about it. It just hastens your own destruction, that's it.

10s self destruct when in your POD, but not if you are in a ship...

*edit* you can easily eject, so this should be reasonable!

How about, instead, an active module which will self-destruct the ship in the way you are describing?

Then at least it's not immensely common for this to happen, freighters can't do it, combat ships won't do it, etc.

And also, if they haven't got you into hull after 10 seconds, are you even going to die?

I guess the OP wasn't around to harvest the tears from capital-hunting gangs whining about all the killmails they lost cause their target self destructed.

This subject has already been addressed, and the community generally wants the complete opposite of the OP.

How about a 10s self-destruct that if activated while under aggression bomasses the character in question?
