Hi there everyone,

I am a bit of a noob when it comes to capital ships so I am hoping someone here can answer me a few questions relating to the rorqual, I am thinking about getting one in the future but only if it will work in the way I am hoping it will.

Question 1: Can I deploy the rorqual while cloaked?

Question 2: If I can deploy the rorqual while cloaked can I still provide bonuses and/or compress ore while maintaining the cloak?


I was thinking ( and please correct me if I am wrong) about having a rorqual and 4 or 5 hulks out in null sec, deep in someones back yard where no one goes to rat, and just sit there mining all the nice rare ores and when someone came in simply cloak up all the ships so they could not be found. Or alternatively keep the rorqual permanently cloaked and dock up the hulks into the rorqual when someone came into the system . and just scatter the pods to various safe locations. Compress all the ore mined and every once and awhile bring in a jump freighter to take it out. or jump the rorqual back and put it in a safe station to be used later. I just want to make sure all the assets stay safe if something like this does happen.

No. The cloak disables everything until it is deactivated (not sure about industrial mode, but it it's anything like triage mode on a carrier then the cloak simply won't activate).

I'm looking forward to your future whinge-post about afk cloakers camping the backwater system you claim for you cloaking miner fleet.

The common solution to this problem is to deploy a small POS with a tiny bit of fuel (just enough for your OP, to save cargo space) and max strontium. Just stick the rorqual behind the POS shield where it will be invincible.

1.) You cannot deploy the Rorqual while cloaked!!!
-- Something I personally lobby for in the F&I section, is giving Rorquals the ability to cloak while deployed (assuming they nerf mining boosts when they nerf Off grid boosting). But this is probably never going to happen.

2.) When cloaked, you cannot activate any modules. Gang boosters, even your siege unit, need to be activated, so you definitely can't "turn them on" while cloaked. Something to note, your modules don't instantly shut off when you cloak, and you have a small time delay (1-3 seconds) between when you hit cloak, and when the game tells you you cannot activate any modules because you are cloaked. The most common use of this, for a covops cloaky ship to align, hit cloak, and then hit an MWD to power out of a bubble in nullsec.

3.) Since Rorquals are complete sitting ducks when they deploy, they are deployed at a POS 99% of the time. You can actually carry a small or medium tower, and the fuel to run it / stront it for any "mining op". It takes 7.5 / 15 minutes to anchor, and 7.5 / 15 minutes to online a small / medium control tower. Once inside the tower Force field (you have to set a password on it before the force field shows up), nothing can attack you, and must shoot down the POS first. This gives you the ability to cyno out, or log off safely long before hostiles can get to you.
