I don't really know what to ask for...

So I am a bit stuck.

All I am looking for is a sensibly priced, optical capable, 5.1 dealing with, amplifier.

My current ****-heap is dying and I would like to replace it.

Whilst I enjoy wearing headphones lots (especially the way it squashes the hair just above my ears) sometimes I want to play OUT LOUD!

My budget is about £150. I don't want radio, swimming lessons, gate-camp avoidance lessons, tactical warfare advice or blow jobs.

I've spent about an hour fruitlessly looking so far. Please help!

Aaaaaaand relax.

It appears that English language divides us.

I'm using an Onkyo RC430 with

soundblaster recon 3D via optical out
Pioneer HDJ-1500 headphones
Bose AM10

controlling HDMI inputs for:

PS3
XBOX 360
60" TV

I wouldn't go below Onkyo... if it was available for what I found it for, it's within £150. (it came as a deal with the Bose system, for $175, iirc).

Rain - no I still haven't found something that I want to buy.

Am looking in a few different stores but I really can't find something that I want to buy. Cry

Ed - I don't allow myself many things too often but I would really like to find something good. What HiFi was ace but it made me feel like a pauper. I don't have £300 to spend.

Aaaaaaand relax.

imo, any square, black receiver makes an entertainment center look dated. I mean, they've been a part of an "entertainment center" in their current black metal form since... the 80's?

Well I think I have settled on something.

Spent a good 3 or 4 hours on it today whilst watching Djokovic vs Del Potro (probably the best game of tennis I have EVER seen.)

I think I am going for this:

It's bang on my budget although I am going to have to remove a shelf from my equipment stand to fit it in!

I looked for the Onkyo model you suggested but it's not even available in the UK.

Aaaaaaand relax.

Just my PC - optical out via Xonar DG

Sky HD box along with a 42" Toshiba TV.

I don't actually have a DVD/Blueray player atm. Rarely watch films.

Aaaaaaand relax.

do you have speakers that need to be powered, or would a speaker system with an optical in or multiple inputs suit your needs

I have a pretty large set of Eltax floor-standers, a good sized centre, an active sub and two crap satellites.

I defo need an amp with a little bit of juice. I am just trying to maximise my quality for the (admittedly small) investment.

Aaaaaaand relax.
