Would Like To Build A Salvage Calculator Tool: Need Help

I would like to develop a salvage calculator tool that calculates how much salvage you have, and what price it's going for in Jita. Only problem is, I have no idea where to begin. Could anyone help me out, or point me in the right direction? Thanks

Do you want to develop this for the sake of developing or just to get the tool? Just asking cause EveHQ can do that (use the beta version if you need market prices) and I would guess there are probably some more existing asset management tools out there.
