Ice anomalies revisited

Yes I know this topic has been gone over several times lately and I wouldn't bring it up again if it wasn't so confusing and so many different viewpoints on what 'right' really is. So here's the deal...

I just came back from 5 months off and stepped right into Odessey. Before you say it, yes I did read the patch notes about ice, and I dont see the game behaving like the notes.

  • Ice is now an anomaly (check)
  • Ice can be scanned with you onboard scanner (check)
Ice respawns 4 hour after last ice is mined (nope dont see it)
Ice only spawns in systems that previously had ice ( I am being told otherwise by capsuleers)
Sensor overlay automatically updates (Nope dont see it)

So I am in Khanid and have been rock mining exclusively in systems that previously had ice (5 of them). I've mined for waaay over 4hrs hours and never have seen ice spawn/respawn in system. Khanid is a backwater system and I cant believe that the ice is getting mined out that fast, right under my nose. Been on early and late and still no luck. So I have to ask, is it 4 hrs between ice respawns? Is it longer? Is it random?
Does ice only spawn in systems that previously had ice? Or is it now random (Which I've had more than one person tell me).

I dont mind the changes as long as they work as advertised.cI am just not seeing it.

Some Amarr systems lost all of their ice.

From the Odyssey patch notes:
"Every system that previously contained a static ice belt will contain the new ice anomalies, with the exception of some high security systems in Amarr, Khanid and Ammatar territory. The complete list of high security systems that will contain Clear Icicle anomalies is: Afivad, Agal, Avada, Bashakru, Chanoun, Dantan, Dihra, Erkinen, Esteban, Gamis, Gelhan, Gosalav, Jarzalad, Jerma, Kothe, Manatirid, Miah, Moutid, Ordion, Raravoss, Riavayed, Seil, Talidal, Warouh."

I've seen ice anomalies spawning in neighbouring systems from the previous ones, as well. Certainly a little coherence from CCP would be appreciated.

Ice will continue to be eliminated until morale improves.

so I can confirm ice spawns in non ice systems. Saw one in Palas earlier.

I'm just waiting for the ability to ice mine in a venture. After that I'll be moving into low sec with all my alts.

I don't know about Palas or whether there was an ice field there pre-Odyssey. There have been significant changes in where the ice anomalies are in Amarr space I believe so that may be causing some confusion. CCP Fozzie et al did say the ice anomalies would appear largely where there were previously Ice Fields and I believe that to be correct. Also where there were multiple Ice Fields in systems pre-Odyssey you should find the same numbers of ice anomalies present. I have checked several systems where Ice Fields were present and this does appear to be the case.

The time it takes for anomalies to be depleted in high sec varies quite a lot. It is not uncommon for anomalies to last over two and a half hours from initial spawn time even at the weekends. Sometimes there are depleted quicker during the week which is a little strange I thought. Numbers of miners in the anomalies seem to vary quite a lot from about 8 or ten up to over forty or more. I won't go into any more detail than that. Blink

The sensor overlay does automatically update not just for the ice anomaly sites but also for the combat sites that are warpable to straight away as well as other other signatures for wormholes, gas, radar, ladar, & mag sites. (Oops - old terminologies. Oops)
