Constantly freezing up

I can usually trigger a freeze by:

Starting all 3 of my accounts.
Opening Firefox, then telling it to open a set of tabs.
Warp everyone to a gate while Firefox is working on getting all those tabs open.

Im thinking that anything on your computer that accesses the internet while eve is running has a chance at causing a freeze. Browsers, torrents, mail, auto-updaters, anything. Much of this is invisible to the average user, and hence the lockups seem random.

I'll bet that it's worse if you're using wifi, too, which Mac users disproportionately do, because :wires:.

EVE doesn't need much bandwidth, but it doesn't handle dropped or delayed packets well at all. It wouldn't shock me if you could occasionally crash EVE on a wifi network by microwaving coffee.

90% of my eve play is on wifi. I use a MBP that sits on a cooling base, that sits on a pillow, that sits on my lap, while Im sitting in an easy chair.

I know, i know, actually having a laptop on a lap is just weird.

For the record, I reported this issue back in very early 2010, and it was closed as "Not Reproducible":

https://bugs.eveonline.com/mybugreports.asp?Action=View&ID=92296

I realize that lots of new code has been released since then, and lots of changes have been made, but the issue itself remains the same. Odds are that it's not an Eve issue but a Cider issue, and while we as customers know about every update to the Eve client, we know nothing about what's going on with Cider. I'm OK with that as a customer, as long as it works. Which it doesn't.

I have had this problem only when Safari is up. It is intermittent tho, and usually happens when I switch from EVE to Safari and back a few time.

With Safari closed and Firefox open no problems exist. Also IGB browser almost looks like it tries to open Safari in EVE, as the whole EVE window looses focus when opening the IGB. Requiring multiple clicks to get the EVE client back in focus.

First I heard this may be Safari related and I think you might be on to something. Safari has been annoying me greatly anyway, wlll try Firefox for a while and report what I find regarding freezes.

Don't believe this has anything to do with Safari, I still freeze.

Before when i got socket closed the pop up came up. I dont get that anymore and yesterday it happend 3 times within ca 60 minutes. Now the game just keeps on going but i cant type in chat and i cant click on anything - but my ship is going forward and everybody else is floating around too, but the game has stopped anyways.

Just adding another 'random' freeze sufferer to the list.

Happens with browser in background or not and running in window-mode. Have to force-quit app, also issues with client not responding to CMD-H when the window is restored.

Not going to resub at end of month as game is too unreliable to play.

Safari is unrelated, it's never running on my machine.

Agree, I never use it, and I freeze. I think most any internet access will help make it happen. But that just makes it more likely It can happen with just eve running.

All -
I also have this problem regardless of the account and regardless of what I am running on my Mac at the time of the crash. I have found a few ways to make the crash happen faster and thus possibly make it easier for the devs to reproduce it.

1) Run two clients at once with two accounts. Doing this will cause a crash within 30 minutes.
2) Run a torrent application.

The crash will happen even if I have every application on my mac other than EVE closed. It happens if I am running in full screen or in windowed mode and it is not so much a 'crash' but just a client freeze. I can watch in local from a account logged in on another computer within 30 seconds of the client freezing the internet spaceship will warp away, but it is a 30 second window. So that makes it Really Bad if in combat.

This has also been going on for a very very long time. I have just come to accept it as the price of playing EVE on a Mac but would REALLY like it if it was fixed.

Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

Why do they market this game for mac? I bought it because of the ads on steam. The client is clearly not ready for that. They should label the macclient as beta and recomend players to use Windows.

I have this problem since the 2012 summer patch, until then I have been running the game full screen and with the higher settings. At the beginning it usually happened after some time playing the game, with later patches and expansions it started to getting worse and worse until now when i cant play it anymore, the client freezes after 2-5 min running. Only skill checks now Evil

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro

We're at 25 pages now, and no meaningful response.

I've reported this as a bug, but it just sits in the queue.

Even a simple "we're looking at it" would help, but we get nothing but silence while CCP representatives respond to other threads in this forum.

It would be nice if CCP would just acknowledge some of what's going on. Really, I am tired of devs and their code of silence when it comes to keeping gamers informed about issues or updates until they can make a big, splashy announcement, or "when it's done."

I also joined through Steam and when the Mac client couldn't hack it, after days of silence, I finally got this:

"As mentioned previously, the Macintosh client for EVE Online does not work on Steam and we simply do not know when the matter will be resolved, so we will now be offering the following alternative to our Mac users....."

Essentially, they just gave up on this one. So we can't use the Steam client, and probably never will. And I think they are stymied by Cider to the extent that they will accept that the game runs at all and accept that the crashes(that I am getting more frequently, as well) are the price of playing on the Mac. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for some explanations, even if it's only to say that they are aware of the problems and give an overview of what they're trying to do to fix it.

So far, the crashes haven't cost me a ship, but it's only a matter of time.

I have the same issues, except I'll point out that I have never run more than one client and I don't have any torrent software installed.

The most infuriating part of this is CCP pretending that this problem doesn't exist so they don't have to entertain reimbursement requests. I'm a software developer (almost certainly more experienced than anyone who works there) and I gave them evidence that my client crashed, which was pretty conclusive even accounting for their assertion that the log files could be altered (ridiculous, but that's another discussion). No dice.

And you have to love it when they give baloney lines like, "More often than not, the benefit of doubt will be given should the issue affect a wide range of players at the same time." Anyone who has dealt with them knows that the opposite is true. I pointed out all the other people in the forums who had the exact same issue and I haven't heard back.

Adding to the list of people with this problem, I've had to use my 11" macbook air over my 27" imac because I don't crash out & dc every minute with the air, raised a separate thread & a support ticket but no replies as of yet from any devs.
