Yeah, and not some ISK third party.

I use Vent on Internap bandwidth (not that Cogent crap), from a company that specializes in gaming (so they're well aware of SKs and worse). Half the internet can go down, my Vent will still be up.

DDoS is considered a crime (and if I remember correctly, an act of war too, under some circumstances) in almost every developed nation that relies on electronics and the internet.

For clarification:

Quote:
DoS: Attack on a target IP using one machine with the intent to disrupt traffic flow and render incoming and outgoing communications from the target IP impossible.

DDoS: Attack on a target IP using multiple machines with the intent to disrupt traffic flow and render incoming and outgoing communications from the target IP impossible.

Having seen some of my favorite communities on some games go belly up because of unrelenting DDoS attacks (and I mean actual DDoS, not just DoS), I personally would never condone using a DoS or DDoS attack under any circumstance for any reason.

Some people on the internet like to forget the very distinct boundary that separates real life from our cyberspace fantasy worlds. The moment someone takes winning a GAME (of all things) that seriously is when there is a significant cause for concern.

So no, DoS nor DDoS are okay under any circumstance. Straight

Why aren't you meta enough to have a backup teamspeak and jabber, and a backup of the backup?

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"

CCP don't give a **** about who is at the receiving end of the packet cannon, as long as it's not their servers. Besides it's only the null power blocks who are using ddos, and half the employees at CCP comes from the same parts of null... you really think they are in a position to do any finger pointing?

You might not like it but around here the pigs walk on two legs, smoke cigars and drink whiskey.

I see no difference there both taking in game, to out of game.

If your ok with one why is the other one not ok?

I very much doubt if most EVE players could punch their way out of a wet paper bag.

Protect me from knowing what I don't need to know. Protect me from even knowing that there are things to know that I don't know. Protect me from knowing that I decided not to know about the things that I decided not to know about. Amen.

Pretty sure most countries wont have laws against DDoS attacks, punching somebody in the nuts however you'll find, is pretty much going to get you locked up, and possibly beat down if you underestimated your target

No it's not OK to do either. But then it's stupid to use comms that reveal your IP to others.

When folks egos are so wrapped up in a game that they can't distinguish reality from fantasy, that's what is stupid.

If in EvE you have to hide your IP to play, then this game shouldn't be played at all, as it's a haven of some serious mentally ill players who'll do anything to win.

In Europe they're talking about making mandatory IP's public, any IP hidden or such would not have access to European network from someone's proposal still in study by the high crap politicians.
I think this is good, even if in the end will end up with BigBrother paranoia and whatnot this simple decision would prevent a lot of inconveniences and also better track stupid and dangerous people on the internet.

And no it's not fine to DDOS someone's coms, I do think this is even something that might lead you take some rest in a nice jail with big beard dudes with tatoos.

Dude, if some day you get in front of a court and get a full 6months pay taken for molesting some guy, 5K € bill to pay and 2 years full surveillance meaning a single false step from getting drunk to a park bill leads you directly to jail for the rest of those 2 years, believe me, you calm down very fast.

In the end you will finish to understand why it's stupid, but it takes some years to realize.

Do whatever you like, it's your problem after all, but if you ask me I tell you: don't

Edit: maybe in your country you're aloud to have and pull your 45 to point someone's head because he said you girls was this or that. In France or Switzerland you do that, the first number starts with 15 years, then you better hope to have a good lawyer and never have pulled the trigger.

I know some countries are more civilized than others, that's what makes the difference between animals and humans, even if some are still living in the middle age.
There's a huge difference in between broking someones bones because you had to defend yourself and attacking someone, one is in perfect right to send you right to the hospital with all broken bones the other has a single right: the jail
At least where I live believe me, you don't want things to get over a certain limit, you just move on or wait the other guy to punch you first.

1. OP needs to biomass and walk away from EvE.

2. You may attempt to punch someone at fan fest but before security can get there... you failed to notice his corp/alliance m8's around him. You just got sack stomped.

3. You remind me of this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns9oAGnK9CU

I live in denmark, and you will not get anything close to a 5K€ fine or 2 years, normally 1 if you are a first time offender, unless we are talking aggravated assault or assault with a weapon.

I think there might be some sandboxy gamelike virtual gizmo on the intertubes that suits pretty well for pixel revenge.
