Chain Mappers

Hi,

Back when Apocrypha came out, I tried the wormhole thing for about 8-10 months, and had a blast. After quite a long hiatus from wormhole space, I've decided to come back. Reading up on things again, I'm hearing a lot of praises towards "Chain mappers," and have looked around at many of them.

I've looked at Siggy, WormNav, Wormhole Space, and all of them seem to be at best a year or two outdated based on their changelogs and news.

Are there any more current Chain mapping programs out there? Are these still viable, even after a lot of the exploration changes in Odyssey? I want to make sure whichever program our group uses is as current and up-to-date as we can manage.

There hasn't really been a need for these "chain mappers" to update, unless it is to add features. Nothing has changed with WH mechanics since their release to need an update.

That's what I thought, but seeing 2011 as some of the most recent updates did make me curious as to how reliable they were in the current state of things. Also was wondering about the browser changes that went on between now and then.

So, in that case...

A) I'm taking a peek at WormNav right now. I didn't have to create an account or login to anything to use the chain mapper. Does it automatically sync my chain map to others in my same corp, or is everyone going to have a seperate map?

B) I doubt WormNav does that, but if so, that's pretty cool. If it does indeed not have a group map feature, between the major two I've seen (Wormhole Space and Siggy), which one would be the best bet for a moderate sized group who's very diversified in actions (PvP, PvE, Indy, and anything in between). Also, are there any major ones I'm not finding out there?

Siggy is constantly updated and improved by its creator. For example, as soon as Odyssey came out, he switched the names of the signatures over to their new counterparts (Data, Relic, etc.).

How do I get in contact with the creator? I am having issues with the API Validation process of the account creation; The API clears, but lists no characters to select. Looked around briefly, didn't see anything in the way of a contact person.

This was my only issue with Siggy.

back when i was looking at it, I couldn't get a hold of anyone willing to take my isk. decided to just host a copy of WH-space myself instead. It may not be as "cool" as siggy but it gets the job done.

For siggy I think you want to look for Jack Tronic..? Something like that. Siggy is updated and being worked on frequently.

I do agree with you 100% getting up and running, and getting any contact info for Siggy is an exercise in futility. I love the program, and pay for it, but it seriously needs some smoothing out around the edges there.. I know in some screens you can't even access the admin page.. I always have to dig out the bookmark I made that one time I finally figured out how to get to the admin screen.

If you're going to complain about the ones available, make your own.
The fact that anyone is willing to put out free, or even payed, chain mappers is a miracle to start off with. If i made one I would certainly not hand it out to anyone who asks for it (and many groups don't).

Of the publicly available ones I have only used siggy and while it's not as good as any of the private ones I have used in my opinion, it does the job fine.

Messoroz apparently does not answer everyone though, maybe you need to be in a big wh alliance to get his attention. He never answered my mail when I wanted to pay for siggy.

So I never had a chance to use siggy. All the other public mappers are awful. They are terribly designed for the workflow of a mapping site. WH-Space for example requires tons of clicks to put signatures in, instead of allowing rapid typing (in absence of accepting a copy-pasted signature list, which, to be fair, was not available at the time the program was created).

Thanks, but nevermind. That was several months ago and I'm currently not in need of this service anymore ;)

Most established corps (including mine) have their own mapping tool.

I have used siggy in the past and can say its very good for a public mapping tool

back when I ran Sudden Buggery we made our own. Which is to say our aspergers-afflicted code monkey spent a day with C++ and a gallon of Mountain Dew and set up an app. When his webspace went down, I would scribble out the chain on a piece of paper, take a photo of it with my smartphone, and chuck the image up on Dropbox.

We're rather enjoying this at present.

It's as comprehensive or basic as you want. Although 'basic' in a wormhole can be a rather rapid experience.
