The inky benefit I see is for people who simply buy all of their fuel from the market. They can now buy blocks. Everyone else will just have an additional step.

second that. an dthe bonus for faction tower is a joke, it is a pseudo bonus, does not nearly all have a cha next to the tower which provides more cargo space

Bleh,

Maybe I am one of the minority, but I am not excited about this change. Of course it depends on the details of implementation. But I can forsee several issues, at least in my situation.

Managing a WH POS in a C1, I have limited hauling capacity. Right now I have about 86km3 worth of fuel needed per month. I make almost all of the PI based fuel inside the WH. I haul in the ice products, and do so basically whenever I make a Jita run (hauler always comes back full is the policy). Given this I can easily stay ahead of my fuel needs.

Depending on how fuel pellets are implemented, and their size I will either have to dedicate another PI person to the assembly of fuel pellets, or have to haul in more m3 per month in the form of fuel pellets. And then either haul all of the PI materials out for sale or something.

I am in your exact situation ( c1, PI, hauling ). A simple Bestower hauls 5 days of medium pos fuel - i don't think we can complain yet about volume of fuel pellets. That is one thing many pilots are concerned about and i think CCP will get right.

The issue is that fuel pellets add a lvl of complexity to the process for the producers. They are supposed to make it easier for the users to consume, ( wether CCP gets that part right idk ).

Its to early to start screaming but i'm thinking be prepared for another tier of factories. Whenever you make it more complicated fewer people will do it and those that do will make more profit. I plan to be one.

Looks like demand for ammo assembly arrays will be on the rise.

Yea for WH towers, and quite frankly any tower where people make some or all of their fuel (ice mining and PI) this will be an extra pain vs benefit. You will still be bringing in the various fuels and then having to take time and pos resources to make them in an ammo array. The only (slight) benefit is not needing my spreadsheet. Oh wait I still will so I know how much of each fuel type I have on hand inside the WH at any given time so I know what's I still need to haul in.

The inky benefit I see is for people who simply buy all of their fuel from the market. They can now buy blocks. Everyone else will just have an additional step.

Indeed tho i see a buisiness opportunity making these blocks and selling them it is only a small extra step making these blocks once the BPO s are on the market
Tho 2 questions what npc corp will sell them and what are the most used towers

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

Fuel pellet BPOs are supposed to be available from Thukker Mix.

So what happens to all the fuel I have stored in my POS now?

There has to be some grandfather period where I can convert my fuel into these new pellets, or have both systems active.

It's call the half-n-half approach.

1) Buy the BPO (or a T1 BPC) or just buy some fuel pellets.
2) Take 7-days worth of fuel pellets out to the tower, stuff them in, then fill the rest of the bay with traditional fuel.
3) Continue POS'ing it up like normal.
4) Keep refilling with the old fuel types until the day of changeover (roughly a month after the BPOs get seeded)
5) Change-over day happens - POS tower starts using new fuel pellets
6) You now have 7 days of buffer using the new fuel pellets
7) Remove old-style fuel, bring out more fuel pellets to top off the tower
8) Convert all old-style fuel to pellets (if you so desire)

So just put 3 or 7 or 10 days worth of pellets in, then do a full swap after the change-over date. You'll have to haul fuel a little more frequently during the migration window, but you'll be ready for zero-hour when the change-over occurs.

1. New fuel released in winder expansion. New BPOs, etc seeded.

2. Towers switched to need blocks a few weeks later. have 50/50 mix on update day DT.

3. remove remaining "old fuel" (sans charters if you're in hisec), and convert into blocks.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

i guess i don't understand how this is a good thing seems to me that i now have more work to do i have to haul the pos fuel to station then converting ti to pellets then haul to station instead of just taking it directly to station... please help me see the light and why this is a good thing. Why can't they make it so i have less hauling and have to spend less time on keeping pos's active. It doesn't seem like a hard problem to solve

it is a good thing if you one of those people that buy all their fuel directly from the market or when you are one of the people responsible for fueling the many pos in a nulsec alliance it is a good thing aswell

If you are producing your own fuel it adds a extra step , but in my opinion only a small step beause you don't have to worry about fuel consumption difference in liqiud ozone and heavy water nor have to worry bout the size of the tower , you just produce the fuelblocks with the right isotopes and they will fit in any size tower of that race , only consuption rate of those blocks is in relation to the size of the tower, of course you will still need starbase charters if your pos is in high sec
