2 Miner II Lasers on a Venture?

Sorry if this is a noob-type question, but I've only been playing for a month.

I want to put 2 Miner II lasers on my Venture, but I can't find a way to keep the capacitor stable.
Could someone suggest an upgrade or something that would give me more power so I could
operate those?

Increase your training in energy management and energy systems operation. If that's not enough, and AFAIK it should be more than enough, then fit some Capacitor Control Circuit rigs. Also try staggering your lasers. Fire one then wait 15-30 seconds before firing the other. That makes it less likely you'll go past the 30% "sweet spot" for capacitor (and shield) regen and thus a bit less likely to cap out if your fit is otherwise marginal in terms of cap stability.

It also depends on what other modules you've got. EVE's in-game fitting screen calculates cap stability by assuming that every module is active, including afterburners or microwarpdrives, if you've got any mounted.

But like Shereza said, it's good to train up Energy Management (increasing your raw capacitor)and Energy Systems Operation (increasing your capacitor regeneration rate). Those are two good skills to have for practically any ship in the game, so they're generally among the first that many pilots will take to Level 5.

As others have said keep training your fitting skills

At the moment, all I have on my Venture is 2 Mner I lasers, a Civilian Shield Booster, a 1MN Afterburner 1, and a Survey Scanner 1. I've trained Energy Management to level 4 and I'm about to finish Energy Systems Operation to level4. Should I take them to 5?

Thanks, that's good information there. I'm going to look into those Capacitor Control Circuit Rigs. I think that would do it.

See the modules under Engineering Equipment for solutions. You can fit something like:

- Capacitor Power Relay (more cap recharge, less shield boost)
- Power Diagnostic System (little more of cap and thus little more cap recharge, also little more shields and power grid)
- Capacitor Flux Coil (more cap recharge, but little less total cap)

And you can try to fit a rig such as:

- Small Capacitor Control Circuit (more cap recharge, cheap)
- Small Semiconductor Memory Cell (more cap and thus more recharge, expensive)

And training skills always helps. Get all them core certificates to elite.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Also, being cap-stable is over-rated, even for a miner. You don't need to be cap-stable, you just need to have enough cap for what you're doing
Stagger the mining lasers if activating both at the same time is causing you to run dry (activate them 30 sec apart), that way the capacitor can recharge a little between activations

What's the reason behind the shield booster? Rats?

Looking over that fit, if you're just running the mining lasers, you shouldn't have any problems at all with capacitor, even without CCC rigs. You'll only have to worry if you're running both lasers, the shield booster, and the afterburner all at the same time, which shouldn't really be happening at any point.

Are you leaving your AB running when mining? If so turn it off :)

Cap Batteries are also useful, though they use a LOT of CPU to fit so may not be possible.
More cap total with same regen time = more cap per second

When mining, turn off the afterburner and shield booster. You will be stable.

Exactly. I just like to have a little defense. Got pod-kiilled a couple of times early on. Didn't like it. I know NPCs don't do that, but still...

I'm stable now, even with them on. But if I fit Miner II's I'm not. Only turn on the shiled booster and afterburner when I'm running away. They're off the rest of the time.

It's normal for T2 to require more cap. Thats why you turn upp the module you don't need while mining. And AB is not something I see often on a mining ship anyway. Your best way to run away from rats is to warp out if you can't kill them. Or you could train for light drones and carry some to fend off the rats. While an AB makes you harder to hit for the rats, it never really solve the problem of them shooting at you.

I confirm that having all relevant skills at level 5 you can run two Miner II and being cap stable without need for any cap mods.

[Venture, Stable]
Mining Laser Upgrade II

1MN Afterburner II
Medium Shield Extender II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Miner II
Miner II
Salvager II

Small Processor Overclocking Unit I
Small Processor Overclocking Unit I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Hobgoblin II x2

Stable without the salvager running, and unless you're in low-sec upwards of nearly 1600 shield HP with a minimum resist of 44% should be enough for your drones to take out pretty much any belt spawn. Hell, I recently had a new character in a venture orbiting rocks with the AB and she hardly took enough damage to need boosting before she could off the high-sec spawns.

TBH I kinda get a kick out of how the venture can fit a T2 medium shield extender when mining barges can have some issues trying to fit one.

Here's another cap stable fit, I used to run with. I never lost it even to the large group of Rats... I just don't mine any more.

Best thing is it's cheap.

You'll have just over 2.5K in shields with a nice recharge rate (for rats)... And remember this most important thing, which I tell every venture pilot I see in a belt, make sure you ORBIT your roids. You'd be amazed on how much it helps you survive in a paper ship.
