3 v 3 Cruiser Tactics. I need of advice...

So I am getting involved in a 3v3 T1 Cruiser Tourney and I have been running through many different situations through my head and I find myself at a stalemate (or flaw) in my tactics.

My competition will most likely (like 99% sure) will be showing up in drone boats and the occasional blackbird per gang.

Now I am not one for a cookie cutter slugfest, I would rather surprise my opponents with a different setup. I feel that the element of surprise could be quite beneficial to myself and my teammates. Personally, being a ruppy pilot, I feel that I can get on top of a drone boat with minimal problem. However, in most of the PVP battles I have lost it was because of one main factor- kiting.

I like the caracal for the ability to be able to kite, but how in the hell would I beat drone boats in such a ship? I would like to try something new for the expierence and enjoymeny factor, but am I doomed to immediate failure by doing so? Not to mention if we face any other crusiers and we kite them, we may just exhaust the competition. I feel that the addtion of a blackbird into our small gang will only provoke the other team to primary the blackbird immediatly.

tl;dr - How would 3x Caracals beat 2-3x Drone Boat Cruisers and a potential Blackbird? Tactical advice please!

Thanks in advance for this one guys and gals!

Depends on the rules of your tournament, and how well your group can work together against unknown shiptypes. In any case, each group has their weakness no matter what you field, so dont be discouraged if they deploy a rock to your scissors.

Is playing field huge and you can choose your warpin? then sniper caracals are viable (they can hit at extreme ranges, usually outside of most normal drone ranges).

If you can't control range that way consider the ecm drone thorax with 1600mm blackbird combo as well.

Good luck!

2 armor ruptures with 1 neut 1 rr in highs, ecm drones, and 1 exequror with rr, ecm drones and cap boosters.

split the drones between the two ships you aren't shooting, rep the exeq if it's taking fire. trololol your way to victory?

Three caracals. One with assault missile launchers for taking out drones quickly. The other two with heavy missiles. Bonus style points for FOF missiles so that you can shoot while jammed. Buffer tanks of course, with maybe a damp each. Or, all heavy missiles with a smart bomb each.

This.

In addition to this, keep MWDing around. This one action will greatly reduce the incoming drone DPS - drones work by MWDing towards their target, then switching into an orbit mode and shooting. By MWDing, the drones will constantly try to orbit you and end up falling behind you, doing less damage than they would to a stationary target.

Also, slower drones such as Hammerheads or Ogres may not catch you at all, which is a plus.

3 ruptures with a rainbow lazer setup, nos, and repair drones. remote tracking computers too if your pro.

you'll win just by using it! DISCO DISCO DISCO DISCO

(also it works (no really) i guess you could use projectiles but not as fun, if you know you can catch them, local tank, nos and repair drones on primary)

3x 720mm Artillery Nano Ruptures.

I'd put money on that over any other 3man T1 Cruiser team any day.

With 12 720mms, you'll be 2/3 volleying their ships.

If you don't have to hold point then got for 3 HML caracals and a lot of MWD. Stay 100km away from everything all the time. Bring FOF missiles...with only 3v3 it won't even matter if they go after the drones first.
I did something similar in a frig tourney...Standard Missile Kestrel with FoFs...overheat mwd...stay at 40km...lob FoF missiles (1v1 in frigs with no drones means there is nothing else to hit...why waste time targeting :P)

Let them primary that...it should have no issue popping all their drones...and tanking 3 cruisers for a while...while your DPS ships do their thing.

Honestly though if you know the general races that the enemy 3 ships will have (gal/amarr drone boats) you are better off having a standard ECM BB fit to jam that race. Then have a Smart bomb on each ship to get rid of drones and enjoy your pew pew.

2 Nos/RR AB Vexors with a local tanked blaster thorax (overheated MWD/local rep tackle while Vexors catch up; faster then plated version). I suppose you could MWD the Vexors but dunno how well the cap will hold.

It's like 2 support domi's with a megathron, except smaller and probably much less effective!

3 thoraxes with ECM drones and an ECCM mod may work pretty well, that gets up to 900-1000dps before drones.

Excuse me, but what the f*ck are you desu?
