What a stupid and pointless waste of money.
Leave that sort of thing to the people at NSA who actualy know what their doing, the pictures the oublic takes are going to be crap and why would anyone wnat their picture in space where no one can see it.

If the optics are good, and considering who is behind this project they are likely to be excellent, this is a huge step up for the casual astronomer with a back yard set up... and likely for professionals as well.

Having your picture in orbit in itself isn't (to me) that big a deal, although some folks will certainly buy into it because of that aspect alone. However having a photo of your wife/girl friends smiling face in orbit above the earth could do some wonderful things for your relationship Smile, not to mention making you a hero with your kids if it's a family photo instead.
