War Dec Mechanic Exploitation

I've noticed a new tactic being used by professional mercenary alliances (aka decBears) in hisec and it seems to me like an unfair exploitation of the existing mechanic.

This is the point where most people think I'm a cry baby carebear. I don't consider myself a carebear, I enjoy a good fight :)

This is what they're doing:

  1. Declare war slightly before their alliance's prime time
  2. Surrender/Retract slightly after their alliance's prime time THE SAME DAY

This results in the defender receiving a "war declared" notification followed a few hours later by a "war is over" notification. What many people don't realise is that there will still be a period of time (usually several hours) when they can be legally attacked in hisec by their aggressors. That is their own faults for not reading/understanding the notifications properly. That is not unfair in any way.

The unfair aspect is that the aggressors can choose to have the war last only for a few hours during their prime time. This often precludes the possibility of the defenders fighting back because their main playerbase is offline during the time period chosen by the aggressors. That is no coincidence ladies and gents, it's deliberate and exploitive.

I suggest a simple fix: aggressors cannot surrender/retract within the first 24 hours after war is declared, ensuring that there is at least 24 hours of open warfare and guaranteeing that both the aggressors and defenders have 1 prime time with regards to members being online.

Seems sensible.

+1

Seems pointless to me to be moaning that an aggressor will pay tens (or hundreds) of millions of isk for a few hours of actual live war.

If they want to waste their isk, let them. If a few penny-eating individuals don't understand the timers and lose a ship then good. They'll have learned a lesson.

Indeed they would never raise the wardec if they thought they might lose a ship, but maybe this change would help.

Help what, exactly? The fact that people are using this mechanic to try and get kills suggests that war decs are in a pretty atrocious state already, if they're resorting to hoping someone misunderstands a timer in order to be able to catch them. If this change was made, then it'd remove that last pathetic little chance of actually being able to do something to war targets.

I mean really, what we're asking for here is a protection against stupidity. What difference does it make if they drop the war after 4 hours or after 4 days? The timer still exists at the end, and they're hoping to catch someone during that timer. That's all. The proposed change doesn't even address the "stupid people get caught during the cool down period" issue

The suggested change is not intended to address people dying during cooldown periods. Read the OP and make sure you understand it properly before posting so aggressively please. Specifically, pay attention to the last part of this paragraph:
