Hi

I had a encounter today that has pushed me to the brink of fully quitting eve forever! So let me begin I made a school boy error and signed up to a corp that not only got 50million oak out of me but also my ships. My toon only had 3.7million sp and I am thinking of just completely starting again with a new character etc and try to go a pvp/pve route. Would anyone else do what u am thinking or is it just a waste of my time?

Well, if you're planning to fully quit forever, Can i .. your stu... Erm. Right! It's gone Oops

More seriously Smile where did you invest those 3.7 million SP? Which skills?

Eve tends to reward perseverance, staying the course & being disciplined about your choices. Many might suggest that keeping the 3.7m SP you have now as the thing to do. At some point you may want them vs. starting new & fresh.

In the interest of playing devils' advocate I'd argue that starting fresh gives you the opportunity to make a new character, perhaps without the errors and unwanted skills you accidentally chose to train while very new. In fact, in the grande scheme of all things Eve, 3.7m isn't a huge quantity of SP or time invested. Restarting from 3.7m is painless compared with say 37.

In brief - there are good reasons to make a new character or keep your current one. If i didn't like my characters skills, name, and perhaps history in eve, - some of the people you've met or who know you? I'd seriously consider making a new character & keeping the current character as an alt.

Restarting is, generally, pointless. Just change your skill plan on your current character.

The only difference is, your clone will cost /slightly/ more.

A good corp that's supportive of new players learning the ins & outs of Eve should be able to help you with those issues.

Consider it a lesson learned, it's better to get stung for 50 million and some cheap ships early on than it is to get stung for 500 million and all your expensive ships later on. Ship wise you have an inexhaustible supply of newbie frigs which can be used for doing low-end PvE to kick-start your wallet again, while generally shite they're A: free, and B: pretty effective in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Go do some of the Tutorial missions. It'll get you restarted. You won't be able to use the same agents as before, but there are plenty of others.

Yeah. In my case, I did a lot of research and found that corporations like that one exist. You have to do your homework and figure out which corporations are trustworthy and which ones will rob you blind.

Uh.... Like the n00b that I am, I didn't think to bookmark that link with the good advice about how to sniff out the bad corps. However, here's a link with a wealth of real good info for beginners.

It was compiled by Mara Rinn.

You fell for one of the oldest scams in EVE and plenty of warning posts about that online about "Do not give ISK to join a corp". Thus I dont feel sorry for you in that way.

Read this guide on how to find a good corp:

you can always go for mining, very low sp threshold and very steady income.

I'm making 1~2 mil an hour just by afk mining highsec carebearing (though not recommended) in a quiet region of the galaxy.

1st Name the corp so some of us other newbs don't make the same mistake..

2nd capitalize on your existing skills, and ensure you wage a war on them the likes they have never known.

You made a mistake. Happens to all of us and has a tendency to happen to new players more often.

Keep the character, starting a new one doesn't give you any benefit. In a year or so you will look at your grandious virtual self and laugh about the few ships you lost to that scam. Skill points are never really wasted, no matter what you learned so far.

Also, once you have some substantial amount of ISK, know that there are excellent mercenary services out there.
(But make sure you read up on their credibility, or the next scam is around the corner...)

Hmm, last corp in your history is Disciples of Acheron [RPAIN] and you were a member for over 2 weeks. So what happened, they suddenly scammed you for 50 mil and all your ships?

Without actually naming names in teh forumz.. it's quite simple to see the history.

Click on his current corp name under his avatar to see the employment history listed there.

Only problem with that is the method used is has the player apply hand over Isk and ships then rejects them and the player never joins the corp. its a method null sec alliances have been using for years.

NEVER...really, I was being nice...in a funny way and giving him a non-traditional way of making his isk back. I would have payed a king's sum for that pic. Singing on comms to save your ship isn't completely out of the ordinary to encounter in game, too. Is it ok if he sings us this to get some isk back?
