I'm still learning to do it too:

Catalyst:

Regulation Light Ion Phase Cannon I : 8x
Warp Scramber : 1x
Magnetic Field Stabiliser: 3x
Small Hybrid Collision Accelerater I : 2x
Caldari Navy Antimatter S

310 dps overheated with my skills and only costs around 1.7 million ISK.

It solo killed a retriever and a covetor. I got a friend to equip the same and we almost got a Hulk together, but there is the fact that the Hulk was probably tanked (Weren't smart enough to scan his equipment.), and was on a character who has had enough time to skill up for more EHP.

Nice inexpensive fit. Have you considered high-meta Neutron Blasters? They might get you a few more DPS without breaking the bank, and your fitting looks like you should have enough CPU to spare; Not sure - I'm away from my EFT system.

Impressive ambition to go for that Hulk. Seems like you need just one more friend, and not even Hulks will be safe...

I'm about to begin my life of crime, but I'm having trouble fitting everything...specifically, a sensor booster. I have Electronics V and Weapons Upgrade V, yet I don't have enough CPU for the SEBO. Am I missing a skill?

My current build:

8x Light Neutron Blaster I w/ Caldari Navy Antimatter S

1x Warp Scrambler I

3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer I

Small Hybrid Collision Accelerator I
Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I

In game FT says I have about 340 DPS w/o overheating. I have Thermodynamics II...would that be enough to overheat LNB Is for the entire gank? Would that be enough to kill a fail fit Retriever in 0.5 - 0.6 space?

Thanks

I'm guessing I have a lucky setup when it comes to suicide ganking in that I can null rat easily.

About 15 minutes, because I'm slow and unskilled, nets me 2-4 catalysts worth of ISK; the sec increase from battleships, 0.2% every 5 minutes, is not too bad either. So essentially it's a cycle of

ganking carebears and losing sec + isk -> Carebear ratting for sec + isk -> Repeat

I don't know about how tags for sec works because I've forgotton most of it, but I'm pretty sure you can use it to get back to 0.0 sec status. Might want to look into that - but I don't even know what the prices for the tags are, even.

I only have Therodynamics II as well, but trust me, the longest you're going to live after you start ganking is around ~10 seconds. That's plenty of time. I have 30 less dps than you, and here is what I was able to accomplish:

http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=19936876

I don't know whether he had the skills for extra shield + armour + hull, but since he was a relatively new player, I'm assuming not. I find it helpful to check the age of the character as well, but that's probably common sense.

Note that I don't know if this kill was due to if Condord was already spawned in the system.

So far, in my (very limited!) experience, scrams and webs aren't needed much. I've been picking those hulls which look like they're AFK, or at least clueless, and not one of them (including those I've fail-ganked) has made a serious attempt to run for it.

Which is a long way 'round of saying - Try dropping the scram for the SEBO. Faster lock-up should be of more value than the point(s). Maybe - IM(inexperienced)O.

I've been using passive targetting to avoid raising alarms, and that seems to work pretty well.
The second Retriever, I locked from almost 30 klicks away, and I motored right up without my victim so much as launching drones (If he'd had 'em out, he might have saved his pod - Or maybe not - they were only Warrior I's).

In the convo that followed, the dude admitted to having been watching a movie instead of keeping an eye on his investment. I think the sound of a lock-up might've gotten his attention in time to save his hull.

Thanks for the advice on sec status, Daimon - Will take a hard look at that this evening. Cool

Edit:
IRT Thermodynamics: Higher levels mean you do less damage to your guns per cycle - Means you can stay overheated longer. At Thermo III, last night, I saw that my guns were about 30% damaged when I locked up the pod - That was after nine volleys. Fortunately, the tenth (and last round in my guns) was enough to do for the pod, 'cause Concord arrived just then.

Based on that Thermo II should be plenty enough for your typical gank.

Short of Tech-II modules I'm not 100% sure; for all tech-II mods if you were trying to fit a scram -and- a sebo, you would need implants. You don't really need the scram; however, yes eventually you will lose a target because he/she was able to warp out. Maybe once every 30 or so, unless you're extremely unlucky. But the pain just to fit both a scram and sebo isn't worth it, unless you plan on doing this for awhile. If you're worried about targets warping away, go for the scram. I always went dual sebo because I'm a pod whore.

Use meta 4 guns/mags. If that's too expensive try meta 3 or 2. Try to avoid anything below meta 2.

With OH your dps should be around 391 with your current fit. A fail fit Retriever has about 9.64k ehp vs therm/kinetic. That would take you 24.6 seconds. However, that's a Retriever with all V skills. As time progresses and you begin going after Exhumers, you're going to want to assume they have all V integrity skills. For fail fit (absolutely no tank) Retrievers, 6-7k ehp is probably more accurate. Stick to 0.5 for now, a "busy" mining system if you could, or a 0.5 system with a decent amount of people so that you could refresh targets and take advantage of slow-Concord. If you get called out in local and have to move around, don't worry about it.

I like your style! Take advantage of that while you can (I miss those days)! If targets begin to warp out more often, you can always try warping into a belt you've D-scanned in a rookie ship, or shuttle or something, BM the rock, or container theyre next to and use that as your warpin. This will take practice, trial and error. Sorry to hear about your loss, did you get my mail?

IIRC Meta 4 guns are not cheap or available in large numbers. Tech 2 are usually cheaper and more available as players (including myself) can and do mass produce them.

One thing I'd recommend: Set up a 10 jump wide low-ish price (80-85% of trade hub buy order price) buy order for the t2 guns with a minimum quantity of 8. People will sell them to you, and you'll have them in all sorts of different locations - which is just perfect for the ganker that likes to travel. Regionwide is an option too, but some regions are very large.

If your trading skills are high enough (Wholesale 3, Marketing 3 for 10j, Wholesale 3, Marketing 5 for regional, or if you just do it a little bit you can skip Wholesale and just have Trade/Retail 4), you can just repost any you get that aren't within 3j of a place you want to gank for slow, but steady income.

If you can't use t2 guns, use meta 3 while training t2. Noone else but gankers ever wants them, so demand is low, but it's high enough that mission runners will sell them rather than reprocess them, so you will be able to find them.

Edit: Meta 4 magstabs are fine, not too expensive at all IIRC.

So long as my reputation hasn't spread, I intend to play 'bumbling and dumb' for all its worth. Just watlzing up to a target under passive seems to work for me very well. I did scare a couple barges out of belts I was investigating just by my very presence. i also managed to loot one of my wrecks right under the nose of another Cat. Made me giggle as he tried locking me up while I warped off with the goods.

I did receive your EVE-mail; i need to do a bit of status repair so I can move my stack out of Jita; Like the n00b ganker I am, I left my stack there without considering the consequences of reduced sec status. Roll The loss of goods isn't that big a deal; they're all replaceable. Just a funny story to tell on myself. Blink

I'm also going to be spending a bit of time bookmarking the hell out of the system I'm operating in (0.5); Turn points above and below the belts, along with target anchors inside the belts themselves. Not dissimilar to what a smart miner would be doing, if there were many smart miners.
