Ships & Modules

So I'm having something of a dilemma...
I'm trying to decide where I should invest my SP in terms of ships/weaponry for PVP. Ideally, i'd love to use projectile weapons - but I can't stand how most of Minmatar's ships look. (Not a big deal to many i'm sure, but I really can't stand them)
In terms of ships, i'd like to go with Amarr - but i'm not sure how good energy weapons will be in PVP later down the line when I have more SP invested.
So i'd really like to hear the opinions of experienced PVPers regarding energy weapons in PVP. I'm aware that they use alot of cap and are limited to EM/Thermal damage, but do they have any particular strengths? (besides not needing to carry ammo)
Also/Or, would it be more or less worth flying Amarr missile ships?

lasers are good enough in pvp, exellent projection. and beams are the highest dmg long range weapons.

Lasers are awful for anything other than using lolscorch.

But beams are limited by their massive powergrid usage and cap drain, also the fact that Scorch is so amazing also cuts into beams useability, range bonused ships like the Apocalypse can hit to lock range with 2 TCs with Scorch which does better dps, has easier fitting and better tracking.

Not sure what buffs you'd give to Amarr though. as they would have big potential to be OP. Scorch is simple thing to keep them inline in terms of capability. But yeah they can feel a bit gimpy at times. Probably why I'm flying more and more minnie stuff. What can I say I like making life hard for me :)

Amarr missiles ships (khanid lines) are awesome and more importantly look way cool!

Oracle with a full set of 8 Tachs is the bane of small boats. When they fit, they pwn. The massive pg is a balancing faction for Tachs, otherwise they'll be too good.

It is more that lasers are more of a kitting weapon if you look at solo pvp. Smaller hulls are particular bad at close orbiting and sig tanking at point blank, because other weapon systems do this better(dps, tracking, damage types), however punisher or maller with blasters or acs can do the same thing pretty good, you simply use the bigger tank to outlast stuff. Bigger hulls on the other hand are a bit to slow for solo pvp(however the apoc changes go a long way to address this) and generally tend to fit strictly for buffer and gank(what isn't a bad thing since they do this pretty good). If you like solo and amarr, you should kite a lot, and try to minimize the effect of transversal on your dps and use range as you major tank against other weapon systems. Another option are ab + scram and web fittings, to dictate range at close range however by the frequent use of neuts today, it is only useful on the harbinger(big cap, enough slots for point, ab, web, cap booster, high dps at web and point range etc.).

The other option would be the drone ships, like arbitrator, pilgrim and prophecy that do very good for solo pvp, no matter what weapon you fit.

On the other if you look at gang performance, you are in a hull that does tons of damage at every range, including ranges auto cannons and blasters will not even cover. Also you got a very good tank, meaning that you will not be the primary but the gallente guy that sits right in front of them(personal experience ) and you have a bigger chance to survive.

As for missile hulls, the vengeance is pretty good, it can tank like boss and does ok damage(for a frig). The Sacrilege is just a very expensive armor drake. It can tank good or can do good damage, not both at the same time and lacks a bit of speed and HAM range to really away with it in 100mn AB fittings. Damnation is more a fleet booster, but I guess you could use it for solo, biggest problem is that everybody think you will be a bait and blob you. Your best bet might be the 100mn HAM Legion, it is basically like a Sacrilege, but with good tank, good dps and high EHP.

Players favour projectile turrets, because they are easy to use and are used with the fastest ships. If something goes wrong, like DPS is too low or the tank fails, then one can still fly away. A tracking disruptor with range disruption used against projectile turrets not only cuts their range in half, but with it is the DPS halfed, because projectile turrets depend on their falloff. Tracking disruptors are only not as popular as projectile turrets or tracking enhancers (which used to have a great falloff bonus until Odyssey) and players, who were trying to imitate the Minmatar style with Amarr and Gallente ships and failed, only added to it. No cap usage, changeable damage type and a high alpha damage, which is useful for one-shot ganking and punching through the remote reps of logistics, further add to the popularity. Hence you often get to read how much better projectile turrets are. Minmatar ships are however the flimsiest ships, which is the opposite of what Amarr ships are.
