Flashing buttons cause disproportionate client-side lag

I'm back on my laptop while awaiting a mobo replacement to arrive, and I've noticed every time the wallet, EVE Menu buttons, etc. start flashing, the client on my laptop lags considerably. It nowhere near locks up, but the client-side lag is very noticeable when these things start flashing.

Is it possible to optimize the code/animation, to reduce the amount of client-side lag they cause?

I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe...
