I have welcomed the new changes to the Orca, with the new updates. The two changes that would make it complete would be to expand the ore bay to 100k and make the capital tractor beam mountable. Others have asked for more slots or more power, I don't think this is needed

I've always wondered why you can't fit capitol tractors since it is a "Capitol ship" no?

To bad the ore bay is soooo small.

All requests for such things as increased ore bay size, slot for tractor beam, extra CPU & PG generally fall under the result that yield will be increased. Increased yield across the board will result in decreasing prices Not good.

The changes to freighters and macro bot afk-ers moving from ice to ore are already causing problems. Sad

the increase in ore bay size will have precisely 0 affect on yield, same with cpu and pg, and additional high slots.

mainly because the orca doesn't mine, and none of those changes affect it's boosting potential.

It boosts overall mining efficiency in the game. This WILL result in decreasing prices (though not drastically, I suspect)

Anyway, the Orca is fine as it is, simply and irrefutably proven by its popularity.

Hint: ships that need boosts are the ones that are NOT popular.

The Orca is not a capital ship, it is an Industrial Command Ship.

Market -> Ships -> Capital Ships -> Capital Industrial Ships -> ORE -> Orca

It is a capital ship. It's in the same section of the market as dreadnaughts and carriers.

no it won't, it will have 0 affect on yield, as i pointed out.

nothing about it's boosting capability, and thus the yield of mining ships, will be affected by a change in ore bay size, or pg/cpu.

Mining efficiency is NOT the same as mining yield.

You know what the biggest boost to mining efficiency was in the game, EVER? When players thought up the mechanic of jet-can mining. Something completely not envisioned by the devs, yet being able to divide labor with dedicated haulers made the mining process so much more efficient it made an complete mess of CCP timetable for player and economy progression in the first year of the game.

In that same way, increased ore holds for Orca's would make their role as ore hauler more efficient, thus making the overall mining process more efficient (though I don't think it's a very big efficiency multiplier)

Saying that mining is only about the m3/hour yield of mining ships, puts you into the same category of 'clueless' people that never thought of jet-can mining.

if you think warping an orca to a station once an hour instead of twice will have any affect on prices, you're completely bonkers.

i just thinking of the relative size of the orca, and the role it has to fill. It is a capital ship, and should be able to utilize the modules that they do. Also I would think its ore carryng ability would be a little more that a glorify retriever. Look i'm not looking to mount a doomsday device, I just want to see the orca do its job as per the original intent. Considering the changes to mining as a whole, this doesn't show up on the radar as anything to speak of. I was being reasonable, I only asked for a 50K increase. Truth be known, it should have a 150K Ore bay. Don't forget anybody can drop a freight container now days and give themselves 250K of storage, on the spot

Yeah, and you can kill those 250k storage containers with a rookie ship. The orca takes just a bit more.
The orca already does enough well, it doesn't need more.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I would trade some of the generic cargo space for a larger ore hold. It's not that I have anything against using an Orca for hauling stuff other than ore it just fits better with its role imo.

Tangential question: Has CCP ever said why minerals aren't allowed in ore holds?

If it was going to get a capital tractor it should also use capital rigs - it still uses Large rigs, which is another point against people who say it's a Proper Capital.

Want a bigger floating jetcan? Grab a Charon.

Not worth the extra character slot? Make do with the Orca.

Doesn't require Capital Ships skill... not a capital

I would gladly get the Capital Ship skill (already got it), and install capital rigs for these small improvements. Some people just can't pass a punchbowl without pissing in it! Even if they have to drink it later themselves.

I don't think any of you see it, The popup ore sites all over the place have made some of us gypsy miners. The ability to store larger amounts of ore would make a big difference. I don't even care about the capital tractor beam, but the larger ore bay would make the Orca the Industrial Command Ship that is suppose to be.

It doesn't require capital ship skill neither do freighters.

Orca, freighters and jump freighters can use stargates. Dreads and carriers can't use stargates.

The ore bay needs a bump up, but that's all.

Yaay!!!!
