In the last months CCP gave us a lot of confusing info about the future of WiS.
I think that the players (also just-FiS supporters) deserve at least to know exactly what's going on.

The last official word is that WiS is "on ice indefinitely". We were told this is because CCP has determined that the players don't want it and CCP couldn't see how to make it compelling. Both of these statements are easily refuted.

I expect what really happened is it became clear CCP's bet on the Carbon engine for WoD proved impossible to deploy for scaling reasons. That is what killed WoD and as collateral damage WiS.

A strong case for that being the real reason is at no time did we ever see a multiple character in a room at once implemetation on the test server or even a video of something like that wih lots of charcters at once and I believe that same is true for WoD.

Personally I'd would like to see CCP put a small team on WiS V 2.0 based on the engine they are using for Dust. At least we know that scales and is deployable commercially.

If you looked forward to WiS and still want it worked on please post your support in the "Some of us Still Want WiS" thread.

Sorry but I can't agree with you. Communication about things that actually matter has been fantastic recently.

Oh noes, what happened to my Second Life? How can I live without it. Maybe I can spend my Linden Dollars on Eve Online! Wait? Where are the furries? I need to be raped by a thousand furries.

There really aren't very many but if you honestly think there's a huge number of people out there who are desperate for Dolly Dressup and the microtransaction super store then get all of them together and cancel your accounts. If enough of you do this it will do a lot more to convince CCP than posting endless threads about it. I suspect that the number of cancellations will comfortably fit in the usual monthly churn rate.

The universe does not revolve around you. Believe it or not, there are others who play Eve for different reasons than you. That means not everyone sits on a TS server making racist jokes while watching little red squares vanish from the zoomed out UI. Some people would like to interact with other players in a different manner. To me WiS done right would be a great ADDITION to the game to be able to meet up with other players outside the ships, to be able to sell them goods and services, to plot and spy on them (I know plotting and spying WITHIN THE GAME is a foreign concept to a goon but, bear with me). If you and your like-minded friends had an iota of maturity or common reasoning abilities you'd understand that CCP's expansion of the game to make it meet with what they've said all along was their vision; to create a total, immersive, sci-fi simulation would not have to change your play. If CCP had done it right and not rushed it out the door, you'd be able to do your grinding and botting thing without ever seeing a station interior. Sadly, they didn't do it right and made CQ mandatory which would have failed even if it had been totally bug free because there clearly is a segment of players who don't want it.

You and your like don't speak for the majority. Don't imagine yourself omniscient. You could at least be respectful and not call names or deride those of us who want a more immersive game experience. Luckily for you lot, and for CCP, most people aren't knee-jerk reactionaries. Most of us who do want WiS/CQ fixed and expanded are rational adults, not crying kids who scream and bully to get our way. We'll simply get fed up and go, taking our money with us.

If you continue to deny CCP the ability to expand Eve beyond it's current VERY niche appeal or to find other ways of growing revenues beyond subscription fees you'll be left to shoot each other in a stagnant and struggling MMO with decreasing numbers to support continued development. Your arrogance and myopia are breathtaking. Hope you enjoy what you've got while it lasts.

If you want a vision of the future of WiS, imagine a spaceship stamping on an avatar's face.

It seems that the little bees know quite a bit about this second life game.

Does SA have a corp/guild/faction there as well?

SA members used to have a dedicated thread to talking about griefing the crap out of furries over at SL. Like flying penises or scat generation, etc.

But then as more and more of you secretly started playing it for real, the thread slowly died from lack of interest.

Not to side with a Goon, but isn't that what Ladie stated to do - "get all of them together and cancel your accounts" versus "We'll simply get fed up and go, taking our money with us."

Yet overall, it seems the game has expanded in subscriptions over the years...?

I would imagine that the marginal cost of adding new content to an allready established engine or the foundation that is CQ is lesser than adding it from scratch - developing the engine. So if CCP ever saw WiS being a smart decision – now and henceforth would be the time where the incremental return from developingtime starts to overshadow the costs. I very much doubt that WiS is in a complete hiatus.

Future of W.I.S.

actual for real content ...

not just a single static room .

there will be actual concepts and functionality for those elusive player owned establishments.

there will be actual concepts and functionality for P.C. to P.C. interaction.

and maybe just maybe C.C.P. will have read and implement the many great ideas from these forums in to W.I.S.

so with that said . the future of W.I.S. is looking bright because its in the future and not being rushed out as some blingy new feature set that adds nothing to the game.

Some players are giving the response 'go play Second Life', or 'go play The Sims' as if it were a bad thing. However, looking at the business side of things (as CCP certainly does), Second Life currently has 8 millions subscribers and The Sims has over 17 million. There *is* demand for simulations by the general world player base, and CCP would do very well to continue WiS and bring over some of those players... if even just a small fraction. Players bring wallets, and wallets pay for more jobs at CCP.

Expanding gameplay beyond space ships will expand EVE's appeal, simple at that. Expansion doesn't need to be just social simulation, either. The FPS crowd is very strong as well, and DUST could end up being fantastic for EVE. Battlefield 3 sold over 2 million copies in a single weekend (!) - if only it were in the EVE universe (DUST should be on PC, but that's a different thread altogether).

Imagine how much more WiS and FiS content CCP could develop if they gained even a fraction of the Second Life's of Battlefield's player base? CCP has already developed an incredible universe - they need to expand that universe with relevant and compelling gameplay into the 'complete sci-fi simulator' they originally envisioned, before someone else does.

Which is exactly what I told you to do. Funny, I always figured that "rational adults" would actually read posts they are responding to...

Key word, "Imagine"

Key point "before someone else does"

+1

If CCP follows the status quo like the barbiephobes would like them to, EVE will die sooner rather than never.
