I hate to interrupt your religious debate, but some of you seem to forget something: the right to believe doesn't mean the right to preach. Believe what you will, and keep it to yourselves and other members of your religious group. Your freedom of belief is granted; but nobody ever granted you any explicit right to proselyze. If someone tells you to stick that Jesus up yours, they are NOT taking away your freedom of belief in any way.

Actually, there are countries in the world where you'd end up in jail for trying to spread a religious message without prior consent.

Just sayin'. P

What if what you believe intrinsically includes preaching and conversion?

Hold on, some Christians sign up to a game, post some cans which are against the rules of the people who run the game they signed up to, then, actually not only cease doing it when being told the rules but wish to go on breaking those rules set down by the creators of the game and for everyone to ignore it.

But the people who are saying "stop breaking the rules" are the disrespectful ones? What?

If the cans bug you that much do a petition.

Do you think whining on the forum is going to stop people posting their beliefs? Do you honestly think you can expunge religion? Even if you managed to destroy every holy book of every religion that ever existed, another one will crop up.

This is literally so overboard it's like...I don't even...

"I'm going to bring this bacon sandwich into the moqsue"
"No we don't allow that sorry"
"Well I don't care, I'm bringing it in anyway, I have freedom to eat what I want, just ignore the bacon and don't think you can wipe pigs off the face of the earth".

Which side is disrespecting who?

Understood and I don't disagree.

There are mechanisms in Eve that give players the tools to report things they find offensive. But if you read through this whole entire thread you find many people parodying other peoples beliefs, specifically Christianity. I run into things I find offensive, but do I whine and complain and say it should be banned? No, by no means, why you do and believe is your own prerogative. But acting like an angsty teen fighting "the man" is not going to convince anyone.

Don't play coy, from your previous posts I can surmise that you would "imagine a world with out religion"

My point was, do you think if CCP officially came out and said "No Religion remarks on cans" people would actually follow that rule? Or CCP would really enforce such a rule? Its kind of a huge waste of time, and a money sink to troll for a few cans that have a message on them.

I dont like revenge

Therefore, no matter how much religion really annoys me, I dont see why anyone would want to lower themselves to the hypocrisy of trying to treat religious people like they treat others and each other

I dont understand why this debate has changed from its original post to a stagnant attempt to gain the moral high ground by both "religious people" and "atheistas"

Both sides I feel would agree that revenge is wrong as it is a self perpetuating nightmare

See what y'all made me do, I had to put in an ettiquette chip and lost my accent for this rant :(

Why is it so hard to just follow the rules?

Again, what's so hard about following the rules? Because, yes, that pretty much is the rule, and for some odd reason, a certain segment of players have a very hard time following it…

Why have a petition process if everyone followed the rules? Do you think everyone is going to follow the rules? Honestly?

Because in a sandbox game people are bound to break the rules, whether intentional or not. And another equally sized segment gets offended.

That doesn't answer the question.

Why is it so hard for this particular segment of players to follow a very simple rule?

Because they choose not to follow the "simple" rule. If its such a"simple" it should not cause such a commotion.
Or is all rule breaking equally bad?

Dunno, I'm not CCP. They cared enough to kick that racist off the CSM ballot so obviously they are not totally laissez faire.

I think that is because CSM is kind of an official position. Can't have a racist as your public face, lol.

So basically, you're saying that just a bunch of unrepentant griefers — they could easily follow the rules, but they're a bunch of [lower backs] and don't because they don't feel like it. Would you say that there is any way to stop them short of simply banning them completely?

Quote:

Non sequitur.
The rule is ridiculously simple: don't bring religion into the game. What's causing the commotion has nothing to do with the simplicity of that rule, but with the apparent chronic inability of some people to follow it, and having no excuse for what they do. The rule does not cause any commotion at all; obnoxious behaviour does.

There's no such freedom or right in EVE.

Wrong !!!.

We nay not have the right but we do have the freedom. That fact we can add messages to cans proves this...

Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo...

The fact that you're not allowed to put whatever you want into those messages proves that you don't.

We do. The fact that no one is stopping us means we still have that freedom for now...
