Client freeze with need to reset

Hey guys,

I'm trying to clean up my eve experience and have one issue remaining.

After playing for a non-specific amount of time the client becomes unresponsive. I can hit esc and 'log out', this does nothing immediately, but if I hit 'quit game' shortly after pressing 'log out' it completes the log out and I can restart the client and run for another set before it repeats.
Each time between freezes is about an hour. Though sometimes less and sometimes more.

Fleet mates notice I DC at this same time leaving the fleet and warping off after a time, though nothing on my end resembles this.

If I don't log out shortly after noticing the client becomes unresponsive the whole comp will lock and I need to hard restart :(

Game play is rather smooth easily getting 40+ fps in everything but clouds. Low graphic settings extend the time between freezes, thought not by a consistent amount.

My system:

Radeon HD 6570
Ubuntu 13.04
Catalyst 13.4 proprietary driver
Runs best in Wine 1.5.30 with d3d11 being disabled and the only override.

My though is this error lies in the catalyst xorg issue that's stated in winehq but can't confirm with logs.

Anyone have thoughts?

I'm mildly new to Ubuntu. If I have missed some bit of info for you holler and I'll post it ASAP.

Thanks

Just in case, try a more recent WINE build. The current one is 1.5.31. Not guaranteed to work, but at least you'll cover that base.

I've been seeing the same problem, or if not, very very close.

Arch x86_64
Nvidia 570GT with 319.23-1

Have not had time to do any real testing on it, but it only started in the past week or two. Around the same time that the new launcher went live. (Not blaming the launcher, just giving a time frame.) May have been a Wine update or some other package update around that same time.

Will look into it further over the next few days. It's extremely frustrating, and nearly lead to a lost Cynabal earlier today.

This used to happen to me (Ubuntu too), didn't think it was a Linux-specific issue, as it hasn't happened since I moved. Nothing changed except for the internet connection (different part of town, different carrier, went from WiFi to LAN).

Will update if it happens again.

Thanks for the replies guys. Every little bit helps.

Some good news:
Eve runs quite stable on Wine 1.5.30 with only d3d11 disabled (only workaround) quicker, sharper. I can run better graphic settings with less performance issue. So far my favorite wine version. Occasionally CQs function quite well. Other times not. Getting closer. New launcher still a no go.

Problem persists however. I considered a slow memory leak but have found no proof of it so am disregarding. Watched my mem usage and max usage at time of crash was only 893m. 4gb system so probably not that. Moving on.

Dryvin: I agree with your timeframe. About the time of the new launcher went live is when this started.
I was considering a problem between Ubuntu 13.04 and catalyst 13.4 driver as I had just upgraded my OS from 12.10. Though if your having the trouble with nvidea than I'm less sure on that connection.
I tried using open source driver. It's crap for 3d rendering ATM so promptly returned to proprietary.

I may revert to 12.10 just to see. Could clean up some inner working in the process.

Please let me know if you have, have had, or have fixed a similar issue.

Thanks

Update:
Fresh install of Wine 1.5.31 with d3d11 disabled ovly override
fresh install of ubuntu 12.10
problem persists

I just rolled back to an earlier version of Wine. I installed the Playonlinux wine version for Guildwars2 as suggested to correct the Launcher authentication issues. It's wine-1.5.28-GuildWars2.

Successfully corrects the Launcher issues, so I can easily load the game again. Will test for a couple of days to see if it corrects the crashes as well.

I can only guess, but I always had stability issues with hardware accelerated desktop environments. I suggest you try to disable hardware acceleration for unity and test if it still crashes.

I've been having the same issue, and I've had desktop acceleration disabled for quite some time.

Relevant Specs (I think)
OS: Ubuntu 13.04 - 64bit
Wine: 1.5.31 (this was happening w/ 1.5.30). Just upgraded so I need to fly around a bit more w/ the newer version but I think I saw a serious lag jumping from Kourm to Auga
Graphics: Nvidia - 304.88-0ubuntu1

I'll try to log in later tonight and get some pew on to see if it happens again.

A couple of days ago we spanked some capitals and bounced to a POS (fweddit and PL were late to the party Twisted). The second I came out of warp and was inside the POS my client went 99% locked. I was getting 2 or 3 frames updated every 15 seconds or so. Had to DC myself just to get functional again. Once I was back, client was fine.

Not sure if this helps or not - I'll try to provide more info after I can run wine 1.5.31 through it's paces.

I've only been able to play for a few hours since trying this, but so far I've had no issues at all. It's too soon to call it fixed, but that's better than my experiences the days preceding. I was only able to play for less than an hour before seeing crashes before using the older Wine version.

Interesting. Along this line, I had my System Monitor open for kicks during a play test this evening. When Eve stalled I noted that the Receiving Network History stopped at the same time as the stall/crash/stop doing anything. Curious that a DC of sorts behaves this way.

As far as I can understand, the reason to use the 1.5.28 GuildWars2 Wine package is due to the support for Chrome. If the reason for these stalls is due to a DC as my system monitor suggests, and if your using 1.5.28 GW2 fixes the issue, than it would seem Chrome is used for more than just the launcher.

On a side note. The launcher works every time on 1.5.31 as long as I clear the launcher Cache on each run. Also, 1.5.31 is significantly more stable than .26, .29, and .30. Not perfect but better.

Keep me posted on stability using that wine client Dryvin. I'm curious

Just another update, I played for about 4 hours last night and a couple hours again during the day today. No issues at all. I don't know if it's related to the SSL patch, or if it's just using the earlier version of Wine. I would think it's the later. I haven't looked to see when updates occurred, but I would suspect that I updated Wine around the time that the issues began. I can't see that the authentication issue would happen while just flying around space.

Don't know that anything changed, but I had back to back crashes all night tonight. So obviously, the issue isn't fully resolved.
