Which is more important to you; the graphics of a game or it's story?

For me I personally prefer a great story in a game, visuals will always be second.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

CCP! Make this man a Super Dev.

That is a Dev who has the ability to tell all the other Devs what to do.

I suppose you are right. I will change the title.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

I like both, but I tend to prefer story. You are also forgetting another key element: presentation.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

I think the two go hand in hand and can no longer be separated.

While the theater of the mind is a very compelling stage, with today's technology, larger formatted screens (I'm on a 46" samsung) and graphics standards, I think we've all come to expect a certain level of realism with the graphical representation of the story being told. Back in the day, we did not have this level of technology and ascii based games were viable. Its what was expected.

An example of the letting the cat out of the bag or opening of pandora's box, if not only for myself personally was the nVidia tessellation demo shown at the 2012 fan fest. Now that I've seen a quantum jump in fidelity, the current level while great ... is not the best.

..just my observational opinion.

frankly, neither of them are particularly important. although of the two i'd probably say graphics.

if i wanted a good story i'd read a book.

The great thing about stories in games is that you have an opportunity to actively participate in it, rather than being a passive observer.

To be honest, stories have become an integral part of games ever since Mario World, when the object was no longer to get the highest score, but to save the princess. Games have become phenomenally more complex since then and the change was for the better.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

You need both. No one will care about gameplay to play on EGA graphics...

Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo...

Same here.

Also, EVE has amazing graphics as it is. So a bit of an emphasis on story wouldn't do any harm.

Every time someone creates a dichotomy like this...

I always have to ask:

"Why not both?"
