Thanks to Cruise missile and Typhoon rebalancing, a roaming gang can now even take a BS fleet into enemy territory.

And i am talking about small/midscale here, that was not very effective outside of large sov warefare before the patch.

Are missiles less preferred because of this or was the advice misguided?

That is moslty, or at least was moslty true on long range 0.0 engagements. Back when all fights were made 160 km distance. And it is still VERY problematic for citatel missiles.

ROFL, gotta admit. Noobs saying missiles are good for incursions is pure comedy gold.

If you use missiles in incursions, even in vg's you need to up your game

Especially in VGs. Missiles are just not able to do the trick against frigates. I would not take a missile boat in any incursion (and don't) and am merely relaying information based on what I've seen. A new guy could get in a Warp To Me fleet with a missile boat because that's what they'll take, not necessarily what's optimal.

What the guide had in mind most likely are fleet setups and defeating other fleets that have logistics. Turrets have the ability to inflict damage right away and have a greater chance to do enough damage or even alpha a target before the logistic ships have a chance to begin repairing them.

Missiles on the other hand take time to get to the target and the person getting shot at by them has more time to request repairs and the logistics have more time to lock him and begin giving that person reps.

As an example look at most null sec large fleets, all turret high alpha ships for the most part. Personally I don't like the tactic and enjoy fleets that do other setups but can't argue with the fact that its effective.

You will find a good portion of guides are aimed at nullsec large fleet integration rather than small gang or solo.

Almost won a fight using missiles, but it was 1v1 Thrasher v. Corax. Had I been able to cause damage faster than the time it takes the missiles to fly I might have won a fight for the first time. Up till yesterday, my pvp has been limited to getting held down and beat up.

We were well matched for damage, but his blasters were just faster than my missiles. Will try again.
