I've had similar things to this happen over the years, but nothing like this. I've been told that my ISP doesn't approve of me idling in game, but for some reason doesn't care if I do in other games. Conversely, a friend in the same city using the same ISP doesn't have this issue.

So, maybe it's time to fix the 'socket closed' error once and for all instead of poopooing it as something nobody has any control over. I can play other games fine, but not EVE currently. This socket closed thing is what turns me off of the game after a while because multiboxing is almost a necessity.

I hadn't experienced the problem until approximately 45 minutes ago, and I've had three disconnects since then.

I accidentally my ship, is that bad?

I've had this a lot too- was told to complain to my ISP. I'm on 60 mbps cable, seriously? lol

edit* just tell me why everything but eve works fine, super fast and no dropped connections.

Have been having the same issue all day, even tried proxying around it to no avail. I checked some plotters to eve's cluster and lose it at the proxy, 30 seconds later it comes back, and then goes down again 2/3 minutes later. All other connections work ok.

This seems to have begun when the account management portion of the website went offline earlier today, since then, eve has been horribly unstable.

Getting this regularly now, i don't know if anyone else has tried this but i downloaded UOtrace, a funky little utility that was designed to ping Ultima Online servers back in the day. You can ping anywhere with it if you set it to advanced and this is what i'm getting when i trace TQ.

UO Trace to TQ

No packet loss whatsoever, average pings of no more than 29ms. My port settings are correct for EvE, so i'm at a loss. What is causing these disconnects, and why has it only started happening since the odyssey update?

This is a disgrace.
Since Odyssey/new launcher this happens every session-can have 5 clients running and its totally random how many will close but 99% of the time ill have at least one stays up.
Definitely worse at weekends/high server numbers.Several in my Corp having similar issues.
Extremely annoying losing ships/pods and missing kills-game is basically unplayable.

Something was changed to cause this problem.

Also having this issue, at least 5 "socket closed" within the past 1-2 hours.

EDIT : Switched to port 3724 as described in http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Network_Guide and all is currently good (about 4 hours in, no socket closed yet).

I can't help but wonder if major ISP's DDoS and IDS network infrastructure is blocking certain dataflows on port 26000. I was able to find a somewhat old vulnerability related to traffic on port 26000, and it's not uncommon for major ISPs to use IDS monitoring/blocking tools like Snort or Suricata which could be causing problems if they misidentify the Eve traffic traversing 26000 as malicious and silently drop the traffic...

http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=2007-4370

TLDR: If you haven't tried 3724, give it a shot. Will update once I've tested longer.

Several Socket Closed short before downtime...

Fix this problem!
I've cancelled 4 of my 6 accounts some days ago, it does not make any sense to me to finance them having those issues.

I've started having this problem too about 4 days ago.

It is NOT an ISP problem as I have it using three different ISPs (home, work, cellphone tethering).

It is NOT a packet loss / connection quality problem as I have run pingplotter and other connection monitoring tools and my connection to the provided CCP IP is spotless (0% PL, < 100ms ping) througout and shows no hickups when this happens.

It is NOT a computer issue as it happens on my computer, my wife's, my office computer and my laptop. They all have different hardware, drivers (all up to date, no recent changes made), etc

It is NOT specific to either port (tried the default and the alternate one, both are just as unreliable), nor is it a multi-box issue as it happens just as much with 1 account running as it does with 2,3 or 4.

It is NOT an idling issue. I've had tons of socket closed in the middle of active PvP, PvE or market searching as I've had it happen while idly mining or sitting in station.

It IS limited to EVE. I can have EVE plus any of WoW, STO, DDO, Rift, LOL, Planetside 2 open and only EVE will get disconnected. Yes, I know different games work in different ways, but fix yours so it is playable.

I love EVE, I want to continue playing it, but unless you fix this problem I will be forced to close my accounts and find something else to play. PvP is impossible, PvE is impossible, mining is an exercise in frustration at best.

Please Fix this issue. Just activated 2 PLEX days prior to having this issue constantly kick me out now. Between Family, work, and life I have limited EVE time as is, please don't make me work more :( BUT SERIOUSLY fix this issue :)

Have started to get this.... I have two clients open for two different accounts and only one will get disconnected with the 'Socket Closed' message!

So that proves it isn't my internet connection and that it is CCP servers that are an issue.

Please fix... PVP is an issue if this happens!

This has only just started happening to me across 4 accounts today. Someimes they all go, sometimes one or two, but eventually it gets to socket closed on all of them. Occasionally it knocks out the router. If I don't try to use Eve, it never happens on any other kind of internet usage. Please can someone explain how that is possible if it isn't an Eve related issue? And why has it only started happening this morning, across multiple computers?
