I posted this elsewhere and some people suggested I move it here. Just a simple way to attempt to reduce the blatant increase in Spammers on EvE (many via Steam it seems), while still making it a playable solution that both genuine EvE players and the Spammers themselves can incorporate.

I went to Jita to pick something up and moments before I went through my usual routine of minimising Local I witnessed the sad case of a 13 year old kid being spammed, and being upset and in tears about it. That was downright dreadful.

I wondered if the Dev's would ever deal with it because I often see the Spammers themselves bragging in other Local chats that they do it because Eve allows it. Jita now has reached a stage where you need to do ten minutes of blocking before you start seeing the proper game players chatting.

I would like to see just a couple of changes:

* Remove Local from Jita altogether.

* Introduce a new system where players can open a new 'report spammer' box where they can tick that option, then cut and paste a brief example of what is being said and send it to the Devs. 50 Spam reports gives them a yellow 'Wanted' label (also highlighting they are a known spammer), a hundred Spam report auto-kicks them out of the station for the hunters to have a play with, and if they start to spam from somewhere in space and get 150+ Spam reports then its total open season for any bounty hunter to claim the entire bounty on their heads, not the current fraction. That way the Spammers will be forced into the game, but at the same time cannot complain about being kicked out or banned. Eve is all about what you make of it after all.

It would be nice if the Devs remembered that not everyone on Eve is streetwise, or over 18 for that matter. Ironically the 13 year old was an Icelander, falling for the scams due to his bad English.

For the record I'm an old fart myself, but still a parent with a teenager who has begun to take an interest in games such as Eve. They are the next generation of Eve players, but I'm not going to encourage mine to join when he's older if the Dev's continue to put their fingers in their ears and say 'La la la I can't hear you' about the whole Spamming issue.

So how much did that '13' year old manage to take you for? ;)

the regular scams are easily spotted, so people have evolved and one has to be REALLY smart not to fall for them.

you might not be as street smart as you think (then again you might be), but dont trust anyone in jita.

if you block the scammers and find someone that really seems honest, make them repackage whatever it is they are selling.

i had someone change a ship name somehow and when i rightclocked it, it showed that it was a guardian-vexor. i dont know how, but they did.
i jumped on it.
and lost 500 mil in the process.
costly lesson.


i dont think the devs need to do anything. just dont trust jita.

How do you often see spammers if you routinely minimize local?

Show us on the doll where the mean old scammer touched you.

If your stupid enough to fall for a scam, you deserve to lose your stuff.

So...a 250 man fleet spams reports on some guys playing station games with them and gets them all kicked out into their guns then?

Solution

WiS with combat -> go and destroy the clones of the scammers and then go and slit their throats and see them gone from local.

If they are in space. Well go shoot them.

A simple but playable way to deal with scammers is to read contracts carefully, and not assume that some guy who offers you a remarkably good deal for no apparent reason is doing it because he likes you.

This also applies to EVE.

Scammers bore the hell out of me.

The same **** over and over again... I never see a new creative scam any more.....

Scammers remind of of the RMT bots you see every now and them spamming.

CCP could always have a pop up when entering Jita with a "do not show again"

Of course, I think I saw that one in Jita the other day, someone was spamming a contract, and encouraging doubters to right click and select show info.

Now, I'm familiar with the old scam of taking a standard ship, and naming it a navy issue ship- in that case when you right click, you can see that it is a scam.

This "right click" showing the wrong info seems to be the worst scam - you don't actually know what you are getting, and you've been diligent.
Its distinct from getting what you knew you were getting, but finding out its worth less than you paid (far less)
