I am running wine 1.5.23 on OpenSUSE 12.3 using the KDE desktop. I previously had EVE running on Gnome but every time there was an update for Gnome or Eve I had to reinstall the graphics drivers and EVE from scratch in order to get it to work.

I was running Eve on KDE by using wine file and selecting exefile but since the last update this no longer works for me. I can not load the launcher because I get the "Procedure not found. Cold not load python.dll" error message. I get the same t hing if I try and run a repair. There is no other message and once I click ok it closes.

Is anyone having the same issue? How do I get rid of the python.dll error?

First thing I would try is newer Wine. If you don't want to do that, play around with the overrides a bit. Start with msvcr90 and/or d3dx9_36. Also may need to try disabling d3dx11; I don't remember what Wine release(s) that was needed for.

According to whinehq the latest stable version is 1.4.1 and the latest release I can find for OpenSUSE unless I want to compile it myself is the version i am running v1.5.23

I have tried installing Python within Wine, disabling d3dx11 and changing the settings to native, builtin and builtin, native on msvcr80, msvcr90 and msvcr100.

Have you tried installing the wine-snapshot from the openSUSE repo's? -> http://en.opensuse.org/Wine

It should be the latest wine from git. If that doesn't work then you might be better off trying to compile one of the latest wine versions yourself (you can then also include the awesomium patch).

I did an install of Wine from scratch and Eve Online was running. But I just tried to log on today and there was an update and again it didnt install correctly and re-running the update or running repair.exe did not help and I am downloading it to do a clean install again.

I am about ready to go find something else to do with my time. It is to much work keeping Eve running when I have to re-install it every time there is an update. Now instead of playing I am downloading 5.42Gb and by the time it is done I will be onto something else.

Does anyone else have these problems? Is anyone else running Eve on OpenSUSE?

I have very similar issues on Ubuntu 13.04 and wine 1.6, I installed eve on my laptop and it was all working beautifully under Wine until the 564012 update came along which failed to install correctly - I have downloaded the manual patch file and put into the EVE directory to no avail, nothing seems to happen

Is there a way to get the patch working / installing whilst offiline?

The repair tool will not run and if I run the ExeFile I just get 'incompatible version'

What makes this doubly frustrating is my laptop is dual boot to Win7 (64 bit) and I can't run Eve on that either since they introduced the launcher, I get some kind of weird python error. Up until now Linux has worked better but given the fact that I can't get it to update I might go back to try and get Windows working first, cba to download the whole client every time there is an update.

If anyones got any ideas on how to get my Linux install to update itself then would be grateful.

The latest update has broken it again. The update does not install correctly and the repair tool generates an error. I uninstalled it t again, deleted the ccp folder and tried to reinstall it. The first time it downloaded the files but afterwards the Eve folder was empty. Now when I try and run the installer it does not perform the download but goes straight to copying files and after it has finished there is nothing in the folder. I even tried installing to EVE2 with the same results. Looks like if I want to keep playing on Linux I am going to have to remove wine and reinstall it yet again before I can install Eve yet again.

I have exactly the same issues that Smudley has.

Both of you are lacking decent information about your setups and what you try.

There is no way for people to know what your issue is unless they had the exact same issue and managed to solve it themselves, but I haven't seen this issue posted on this forum before.

Provide information like (I don't care if you posted some of it before or not):

  • wine version
  • overrides
  • winetricks packages you installed (if any)
  • full installation path
  • command that you use to run eve (paste the script / alias / ... that you use)
  • paste the command line output (yes you need to run it from terminal to do debugging), make sure you didn't disabled all the debugging output
  • poste the error that the repair tool gives (type it over if needed)

Hi Folks, just got a new rig and was trying to install Eve.

I manage to get it to stop erroring for the python dll but now its complaining about the MSVCR90.dll not available even though I installed vcrun2008 via winetricks, if I remove the overrides for the msvcpr90.dll it goes back to the Procedure not found python.dll message.

any help would be appreciated.

Try winetricks corefonts d3dx9_36 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 then attempt to run eve.

This still fails - I additionally installed corefonts & d3dx9, vcrun2005 actually fails when trying to install, error I see is below.

Quote:
vcrun2005 install completed, but installed file /home/lburton/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/winsxs/x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_x-ww_150c9e8b/mfc80.dll not found

so I updated to wine 1.5 and if I use the actual eve exe (\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe) with the overrides parked as native for the msvcr's it'll run the actual eve client (although it has some weird 'tearing' about 40% of the way down which i'm not sure the reason why)

the launcher is still not working though rigth now which is a bummer.

I stand corrected, if I set overrides to builtin/native it'll run the launcher for (hopefully) client updates.

the 'tearing' i'm seeing is still there though int he client, but i'm 95% content with my current status to be able to play.

Ideally people would actually install a more recent version of wine. In computer time wine version 1.4.1 is ancient.
The current stable wine version is 1.6 (released last week).

You and I know that software compatibility with wine versions is akin to voodoo. Ugh
